Symptom-based questionnaire for identifying COPD in smokers
David Price,David G. Tinkelman,Ronald J. Halbert,Robert J. Nordyke,Sharon Isonaka,Dmitry Nonikov,Elizabeth F. Juniper,Daryl Freeman,Thomas Hausen,Mark L Levy,Anders Østrem,Thys van der Molen,Constant P. van Schayck +12 more
TL;DR: A simple patient self-administered questionnaire can be used to identify patients with a high likelihood of having COPD, for whom spirometric testing is particularly important, and implementation of this questionnaire could enhance the efficiency and diagnostic accuracy of current screening efforts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opportunities to diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in routine care in the UK: a retrospective study of a clinical cohort
Rupert Jones,David Price,Dermot Ryan,Dermot Ryan,Erika J. Sims,Julie von Ziegenweidt,Laurence Mascarenhas,Anne Burden,David M.G. Halpin,Robert Winter,Sue Hill,Matt Kearney,Kevin Holton,Anne Moger,Daryl Freeman,Alison Chisholm,Eric D. Bateman +16 more
TL;DR: Opportunities to diagnose COPD at an earlier stage are being missed, and could be improved by case-finding in patients with lower respiratory tract symptoms and concordant long-term comorbidities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fractional exhaled nitric oxide as a predictor of response to inhaled corticosteroids in patients with non-specific respiratory symptoms and insignificant bronchodilator reversibility: a randomised controlled trial
David Price,Roland Buhl,Adrian Chan,Daryl Freeman,Elizabeth Gardener,Clifford Godley,Kevin Gruffydd-Jones,Lorcan McGarvey,Ken Ohta,Dermot Ryan,Jörgen Syk,Ngiap Chuan Tan,Ngiap Chuan Tan,Tze Lee Tan,Mike Thomas,Sen Yang,Priyanka Raju Konduru,Marcus Ngantcha,Martina Stagno d'Alcontres,Therese Sophie Lapperre +19 more
TL;DR: FeNO measurement is an easy and non-invasive tool to use in clinical practice in patients with non-specific respiratory symptoms to predict response to inhaled corticosteroids, and further research is needed to examine its role in Patients with evidence of other airway diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Earlier diagnosis and earlier treatment of COPD in primary care.
TL;DR: Evidence suggests that early encouragement of smoking cessation, in conjunction with management of symptoms and treating activity limitation and exacerbations by appropriate non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic management at the earliest possible stage, could positively affect the impact and progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Symptom-Based Questionnaire for Differentiating COPD and Asthma
David G. Tinkelman,David Price,Robert J. Nordyke,Ronald J. Halbert,Sharon Isonaka,Dmitry Nonikov,Elizabeth F. Juniper,Daryl Freeman,Thomas Hausen,Mark L Levy,Anders Østrem,Thys van der Molen,Constant P. van Schayck +12 more
TL;DR: A short, symptom-based questionnaire identifies persons more likely to have COPD among persons with prior evidence of OLD as well as ability of individual questions in a multivariate framework to discriminate between persons with and without the study diagnosis of COPD.
