Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidation of tryptophan and N-methylindole by N3.cntdot., Br2.-, and (SCN)2.- radicals in light- and heavy-water solutions: a pulse radiolysis study

TL;DR: In this paper, the extinction coefficients for secondary acid-base reactions have been determined in the pH range 3-10 and the pK of the TRP{sup {sm bullet}+} radical cation was confirmed to be 4.2 {plus minus} 0.1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Structure on αC−H Bond Enthalpies of Amino Acid Residues: Relevance to H Transfers in Enzyme Mechanisms and in Protein Oxidation†

TL;DR: All BDEs are smaller than those of typical secondary or tertiary C-H bonds due to the phenomenon of captodative stabilization, and some very significant effects of this are seen in the current literature on H-transfer processes in enzyme mechanisms and in oxidative damage to proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction potential of the carboxyl radical anion in aqueous solutions

TL;DR: The reduction potential for the {sup {sm bullet}}CO{sub 2}{sup {minus}} radical anion has been determined by equilibration of formate with sulfhydryl radicals of {beta}-mercaptoethanol, penicillamine, and lipoamide in aqueous solutions at pH 3-6 as mentioned in this paper.
