Magnitude of perceived change in natural images may be linearly proportional to differences in neuronal firing rates.
David J. Tolhurst,Michelle To,Mazviita Chirimuuta,Tom Troscianko,Pei Ying Chua,George P. Lovell +5 more
TL;DR: A computational model is implemented that tries to explain observers' ratings of naturalistic differences between image pairs, and rises roughly linearly with the model's numerical output, which implies that rating is proportional to the neuronal response.

Proceedings: The use of a digital computer in the study of neuronal properties in the visual system.

Journal ArticleDOI
Perception of differences in naturalistic dynamic scenes, and a V1-based model
TL;DR: Overall, modeling naturalistic temporal filtering improved the models' performance; in particular, the predictions of the ratings for low-pass spatially filtered movies were much improved by employing a transient impulse function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinotopic organisation of the visual cortex in human albinism
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Assessment of synthetic image fidelity
Kevin D. Mitchell,Ian R. Moorhead,Marilyn A. Gilmore,Graham H. Watson,Mitch Thomson,T. Yates,T Troscianko,David J. Tolhurst +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a variety of different methods of comparing real and synthetic imagery and comparing synthetic imagery rendered to different levels of fidelity were investigated, including neural networks (ICA), higher order statistics and models of human contrast perception.
