Journal ArticleDOI
The sentinel node in breast cancer--a multicenter validation study.
David N. Krag,Donald L. Weaver,Takamaru Ashikaga,Frederick L. Moffat,V. Suzanne Klimberg,Craig D. Shriver,Sheldon Feldman,Roberto Kusminsky,Michele A. Gadd,Joseph A. Kuhn,Seth P. Harlow,Peter D. Beitsch,Pat Whitworth,Roger S. Foster,Kambiz Dowlatshahi +14 more
TL;DR: Biopsy of sentinel nodes can predict the presence or absence of axillary-node metastases in patients with breast cancer, however, the procedure can be technically challenging, and the success rate varies according to the surgeon and the characteristics of the patient.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgical resection and radiolocalization of the sentinel lymph node in breast cancer using a gamma probe
TL;DR: A pilot study of breast cancer patients concludes that radiolocalization and selective resection of sentinel lymph nodes is possible; and the sent Sentinel lymph node appears to predict correctly the status of the remaining axilla.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychological adjustment in breast cancer: processes of emotional distress.
JoAnne E. Epping-Jordan,Bruce E. Compas,Dana M. Osowiecki,Gerri Oppedisano,Cynthia A. Gerhardt,Kari Primo,David N. Krag +6 more
TL;DR: The process of psychological adjustment to breast cancer was examined at diagnosis and at 3- and 6-month follow-ups in a sample of 80 women with Stage I-Stage IV breast cancer, and low dispositional optimism reemerged as a significant predictor of changes in anxiety/depression at 6 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
Minimal-access surgery for staging of malignant melanoma.
David N. Krag,Sybren J. Meijer,Sybren J. Meijer,Donald L. Weaver,Brian W. Loggie,Seth P. Harlow,Kenneth K. Tanabe,Edward H. Laughlin,James C. Alex +8 more
TL;DR: Selective gamma probe-guided resection of the radiolabeled sentinel lymph node is possible in over 95% of patients with melanoma and offers a simple and reliable method of staging of regional lymph nodes in these patients without performing a regional lymphadenectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morbidity results from the NSABP B‐32 trial comparing sentinel lymph node dissection versus axillary dissection
Takamaru Ashikaga,David N. Krag,Stephanie R. Land,Thomas B. Julian,Stewart J. Anderson,Ann M. Brown,Joan M. Skelly,Seth P. Harlow,Donald L. Weaver,Eleftherios P. Mamounas,Joseph P. Costantino,Norman Wolmark +11 more
TL;DR: Three year post‐surgical morbidity levels were compared between patients withnegative sentinel lymph node dissection alone (SLND) and those with negative sentinel nodes dissection and negative axillary lymph node Dissection (ALND) in the NSABP B‐32 trial.
