TL;DR: A novel mechanism for DILI is proposed, whereby HCV- and HIV-associated inflammatory mediators induce liver injury synergistically and the beneficial effects of IFN-based therapy may be modulated through the suppression of proinflammatory cytokines, even in virologic nonresponders.
