Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of prerelease experience on reintroduced black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes)
TL;DR: Routine use of quasinatural outdoor pens for prerelease conditioning of black-footed ferrets is recommended, and radio-tagged cage-reared ferrets made longer nightly moves and dispersed further from release sites than their pen- reared counterparts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influences of introduced plague on north american mammals: implications from ecology of plague in asia
Dean E. Biggins,Michael Kosoy +1 more
TL;DR: Studies on the ecology of Y. pestis in ancient foci of central Asia and in western North America are reviewed, where the bacterium apparently has become established much more recently.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enzootic plague reduces black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes) survival in Montana.
TL;DR: The enhancement of survival due to vaccination or flea control supports the hypothesis that enzootic plague reduces ferret survival, even when there was no noticeable decline in prairie dog abundance.
A technique for evaluating black-footed ferret habitat

Journal ArticleDOI
Vector Control Improves Survival of Three Species of Prairie Dogs (Cynomys) in Areas Considered Enzootic for Plague
TL;DR: The results suggest that plague might be maintained indefinitely in PD populations in the absence of free epizootics and widespread mortality among these animals.
