Weir,Charles S. Wingo +54 more
TL;DR: Conference deliberations on potassium homeostasis in health and disease, guidance for evaluation and management of dyskalemias in the context of kidney diseases, and research priorities in each of the above areas are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of body fat distribution in humans may provide insight about obesity-related health risks.
TL;DR: This review discusses what is known about the determinants of bodyfat distribution, and highlights the important roles of sex hormones, aging, and genetic variation in the determination of body fat distribution and its contribution to obesity-related comorbidities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of estrogen receptor alpha induces beiging of adipocytes.
Roberta de Souza Santos,Aaron P. Frank,Luciana Alves de Fátima,Biff F. Palmer,Orhan K. Öz,Deborah J. Clegg +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time that selective-activation of ERα in adipocytes increases markers of beiging and this is likely through induction of AMPK and ATGL-mediated lipolysis providing FFAs as a fuel to activate UCP-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of estrogens in the adipose tissue milieu.
John R. Bracht,Victoria J. Vieira-Potter,Roberta de Souza Santos,Orhan K. Öz,Biff F. Palmer,Deborah J. Clegg +5 more
TL;DR: The role of estrogens and their influence in determining body fat distribution and overall health of adipose tissues, and the role of epigenetic mechanisms in regulating the production and function of estrogen are focused on.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyperkalemia across the Continuum of Kidney Function.
Biff F. Palmer,Deborah J. Clegg +1 more
TL;DR: A 55-year-old man with a history of ESRD due to type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension presents with a plasma K+ of 5.5 mEq/L 1 month after a deceased donor kidney transplant.
