A comprehensive mitochondrial phylogeny of the family Mugilidae (Durand et al., Mol. Phylogenet. Evol. 64 (2012) 73-92) demonstrated the polyphyly or paraphyly of a proportion of the 20 genera in the family. Based on these results, here we propose a revised classification with 25 genera, including 15 genera currently recognized as valid (Agonostomus, Aldrichetta, Cestraeus, Chaenomugil, Chelon, Crenimugil, Ellochelon, Joturus, Mugil, Myxus, Neomyxus, Oedalechilus, Rhinomugil, Sicamugil and Trachystoma), 7 resurrected genera [Dajaus (for Agonostomus monticola), Gracilimugil (for Liza argentea), Minimugil (for Sicamugil cascasia), Osteomugil (for several species currently under Moolgarda and Valamugil, including M. cunnesius, M. engeli, M. perusii, and V. robustus), Planiliza (for Indo-Pacific Chelon spp., Indo-Pacific Liza spp., and Paramugil parmatus), Plicomugil (for Oedalechilus labiosus), and Squalomugil (for Rhinomugil nasutus)] and 3 new genera: Neochelon gen. nov. (for Liza falcipinnis), Parachelon gen. nov. (for L. grandisquamis) and Pseudomyxus gen. nov. (for Myxus capensis). Genus Chelon was shown to include exclusively Chelon spp. and Liza spp. from the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and Liza spp. species endemic to eastern southern Africa. Genus Crenimugil should now include C. crenilabis, Moolgarda seheli and V. buchanani. Genus names Liza, Moolgarda, Paramugil, Valamugil and Xenomugil should be abandoned because they are no longer valid. Further genetic evidence is required to confirm or infirm the validity of the genus Paracrenimugil Senou 1988. The mitochondrial phylogeny of the 25 genera from the present revision is the following: [(Sicamugil, (Minimugil, Rhinomugil)); Trachystoma; ((Myxus, Neomyxus), (Cestraeus, Chaenomugil, (Agonostomus, Dajaus, Joturus), Mugil)); (Aldrichetta, Gracilimugil); Neochelon gen. nov.; (Pseudomyxus gen. nov., (Chelon, Oedalechilus, Planiliza, Parachelon gen. nov.)); ((Squalomugil, (Ellochelon, Plicomugil)), (Crenimugil, Osteomugil))]. Agonostomus monticola and several species with large distribution ranges (including Moolgarda seheli, Mugil cephalus and M. curema) consist of separate lineages whose geographic distribution suggests they are cryptic species, thus warranting further taxonomic work in the Mugilidae at the infra-generic level.

Iconography : Genus-level taxonomic changes implied by the mitochondrial phylogeny of grey mullets (Teleostei: Mugilidae)

The Largescale mullet Liza macrolepis is a common fish found in estuaries and coastal areas and the fish is used as a source of protein by coastal communities. This study aims to analyze the prevalence and intensity of parasitic infected on mullets harvested from the waters of the West - South Aceh. This research was conducted from March to April 2019 in 8 locations, namely; Estuary Aceh River, Gampong Jawa, Banda Aceh city, Coastal Ujong Pancu, Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar, Estuary Teunom River, Calang, Aceh Jaya, Estuary, and Coastal Kuala Bubon, Samatiga, West Aceh, Estuary Nagan River Langkak Kuala Tuha Nagan Raya, Estuary, and Coastal Susoh, Blang Pidie, Southwest Aceh, Estuary and Coastal Indra Damai, Kluet Selatan, South Aceh and Estuary Sua- Sua River and Ujong Umo River, Simeulue. A total of 343 samples were examined for ectoparasites and endoparasites at the Laboratory of Hatchery, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Syiah Kuala University. The results showed that there were seven species of parasites, infected the mullet samples namely; Ectoparasites (Cymanthoa sp., Ergasilus sp., Lernanthropus sp., Monstriloida sp., Myxobolus sp.) and Endoparasites (Nematodes and Trematodes). Prevalence value of Kota Banda Aceh was 33% ectoparasites and 28% endoparasites), Aceh Besar was 21% ectoparasites and 15% endoparasites, Aceh Jaya was 4% ectoparasites and 4% endoparasites, Southwest Aceh was 2% ectoparasites and 2% endoparasites, Simeulue was 9% ectoparasites and 9% endoparasites. It is concluded that the higher prevalence and intensity were found in fish samples from Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar, while no fish from Nagan Raya and Aceh Selatan were infected by parasites. Keywords: Parasite Coastal Estuary P ollutant ABSTRAK Ikan belanak Liza macrolepis sering dijumpai di muara dan pesisir pantai dan dijadikan sebagai sumber protein oleh masyarakat pesisir. Saat ini belum ada penelitian terkait jenis-jenis parasite yang menyerang ikan belanak di perairan Aceh, khususnya di pantai Barat Selatan Aceh. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis prevelensi dan intensitas parasit pada ikan belanak di perairan Barat Selatan Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan sejak Maret sampai April 2019 meliputi 8 lokasi, yaitu; Muara Krueng Aceh, Gampong Jawa Kota Banda Aceh, Ujung Pancu, Peukan Bada Aceh Besar, Muara Krueng Teunom, Calang Aceh Jaya, Muara Sungai/Pesisir Kuala Bubon, Samatiga Aceh Barat, Muara Krueng Nagan, Kuala Tuha Nagan Raya, Muara/Pesisir Susoh, Blang Pidie Aceh Barat Daya, Muara/Pesisir Indra Damai, Kluet Selatan Aceh Selatan dan Muara sungai Ujong Umo dan muara sungai Sua – Sua, tepah barat dan Simeulu Timur, Simeulu.  Metode digunakan adalah preparat ulas (Smeer method). Sebanyak 343 sampel dibedah untuk dilakukan pemeriksan ektoparasit dan endoparasit di Laborarorium Pembenihan Ikan, Fakultas Kelautan dan Perikanan, Universitas Syiah Kuala. Hasil penelitian ditemukan 7 jenis parasit, ektoparasit ( Cymanthoa sp., Ergasilus sp., Lernanthropus sp., Monstriloida sp., Myxobolus sp.) dan Endoparasit ( Nematoda dan Trematod a ). Nilai prevalensi; Kota Banda Aceh (33% ektoparasit, 28% endoparasit), Aceh Besar (21 % ektoparasit, 15% endoparasit), Aceh Jaya (4% ektoprasit dan 4%endoparasit), Aceh Barat Daya (2% ektoprasit dan 2% endoparasit) Simeulu (9% ektoparasit dan 9% endoparasit). Disimpulkan bahwa prevelensi dan intensitas parasit tertinggi dijumpai pada sampel ikan dari Banda Aceh dan Aceh Besar, sedangkan ikan sampel dari Nagan Raya dan Aceh Selatan bebas dari serangan parasit. Elucidating species diversity of genus Betta from Aceh waters Indonesia using morphometric and genetic data

Laundry industry increasingly prevalent in Malang as many students who want instant leaching process. Waste generated in the form detergent wastes directly discharged into waters such as rivers and pollute the water environment and disrupt the lives of aquatic one of tilapia. Components of detergent can cause a decrease in dissolved oxygen (DO) in the water. The low DO disrupt the process of respiration and metabolism in fish. As a result, higher mortality and physiology index values as parameters impaired metabolism of the fish. Therefore, this study  purpose to: 1) determine the influence of industrial wastes laundry detergent on mortality and physiological indices of nile tilapia (Orechromis niloticus); and 2) the concentration of industrial wastewater laundry detergent that what has the highest mortality rate. This research method is RAL 3 repetitions and 6 treatments (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%). The design of the study is only Posttest Control Design. The results showed the influence of industrial wastes laundry detergent on mortality and physiological indices of nile tilapia. The highest mortality of nile tilapia at a concentration of 5% as much as 6 tails. While the CF concentration of 0% at 1.92; 1% of 1.97; 2% of 1.95; 3% of 1.69; 4% by 1.51; and 5% of 1.23. LSI value of 0% concentration of 0.23; 1% of 0.33; 2% 0,58; 3% of 0.50; 4% 0,58; and 5% of 0.67. GSI value of 0% concentration of 0.93; 1% of 0.21; 2% of 0.28; 3% of 0.14; 4% of 0.21; and 5% by 0.26. Physiology index can be used as a biomarker of environmental biology to determine the level of pollution in waste waters. Effect of Waste Laundry Detergent Industry Against Mortality and Physiology Index of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Biodiversitas 21: 3422-3430.  Mullets are one of the commercial groups of coastal fish living in Aceh waters, in Indonesia. Presently, there is limited information on the bioecology, especially on the genetics and morphometrics of these fishes. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the morphology and genetic variations of Liza macrolepis, Liza tade, and Moolgarda engeli mullets. This study was conducted from January 2018 to July 2019 in four locations along the northern and eastern coasts of Aceh.  Data were obtained by measuring the morphometrics of a total of 180 samples of the species in equal ratios. The data were analyzed using the ANOVA and Discriminate function analysis (DFA). The ANOVA test showed that at least 75% of characters are not significantly different among the mullets. Meanwhile, the discriminant function analysis produces the two functions with Eigenvalue of 0.627 and 0.107 with 85.5% and 17.2% total variants, respectively.  Function 1 discriminates the mullet samples into two groups; the first was L. tade, and the second belonged to L. macrolepis and M. engeli. In addition, a total of 18 samples of mullets consisting of 8 samples of the L. macrolepis, 2 samples of the L tade, and 8 samples of the M. engeli were successfully amplified from the 5' region of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COX1) gene using a pair of primers (Fish F1 and Fish R1). Furthermore, a total of 7 haplotype sequences were produced from the ingroup where L. tade has one haplotype, L. macrolepis and M. engeli had three haplotypes, respectively. The genetic distance analysis showed that the interspecific distance was 0.38% and intraspecific was 8.2%. Therefore, the COI gene successfully discriminated against the mullet into three valid species.

Morphometrics and genetics variations of mullets (Pisces: Mugillidae) from Aceh waters. Indonesia

Background: The mullets fish Liza macrolepis and Moolgarda engeli are predominant in the Lambada Lhok waters in Aceh province. At present, no scientific report on this species in Aceh waters is available. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to examine the growth pattern and condition factor of the species of mullets L. macrolepis and M. engeli harvested from the aforementioned coastal waters. Methods: The sampling was done in three locations in the Lambada Lhok waters from July to November 2018. The fish were captured using gillnets from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM four times a month for five months.  A total of 242 L. macrolepis and 109 M. engeli were used for the analysis. The growth pattern was analyzed using linear allometric model; then, two condition factors, Fulton’s and relative weight, were calculated. Results: The study revealed a b value of 2.49 for the male L. macrolepis and 1.81 for the female. The b value was 3.22 for the male M. engeli and 3.41 for the female. The b value of the fish was higher during the dry season. The Fulton’s condition factor of the male L. macrolepis was 1.19, and that of the female was 1.19. The relative condition factor of this species was 100.11 and 100.01 for males and females, respectively. The Fulton condition factor of male M. engeli was 1.05 and that of the female was 1.06. The relative weight condition factors were 101.08 and 100.61 for the male and female, respectively. Conclusions:  The growth pattern of  M. engeli  tends to be isometric, whereas that of  L. macrolepis  has a negative allometric growth pattern. The condition factors indicate that the Lambada Lhok waters are still in good condition and support the growth of the mullets, but  M. engeli  is more adaptable than  L. macrolepis .
