Sand dunes as migrating strings.

TL;DR: A reduced complexity model for three-dimensional sand dunes is developed, based on a simplified description of the longitudinal and lateral sand transport, and it is shown that the stability of a rectilinear transverse dune against lateral fluctuations is unstable only if the lateral transport on the dune slip face prevails over that on the upwind face.
Journal ArticleDOI

Supercritical river terraces generated by hydraulic and geomorphic interactions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use an experimental and numerical study to identify the geomorphic and hydraulic controls driving the response of mixed bedrock-alluvial rivers to variable sediment supply, water discharge, and tectonic tilting.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance of automated methods for flash flood inundation mapping: a comparison of a digital terrain model (DTM) filling and two hydrodynamic methods

TL;DR: In this paper, a digital terrain model (DTM) filling approach (height above nearest drainage/Manning-Strickler or HAND/MS) and two hydrodynamic methods (caRtino 1D and Floodos 2D) are used to estimate the flooded areas of three major flash floods observed during the last 10 years in southeastern France, i.e., the 15 June 2010 flooding of the Argens river and its tributaries (585 km of river reaches), the 3 October 2015 flooding of small coastal rivers of the French Riviera

HyLands 1.0: a hybrid landscape evolution model to simulate the impact of landslides and landslide-derived sediment on landscape evolution

TL;DR: HyLands as discussed by the authors is a hybrid landscape evolution model integrated within the Topo Toolbox Landscape Evolution Model (TTLEM) framework, which can simulate both erosion and deposition at any place in the landscape due to fluvial bedrock incision, sediment transport and rapid, stochastic mass wasting through landsliding.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental study on transient and steady-state dynamics of bedforms in supply limited configuration

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate experimentally the development of bedforms in a configuration where the sediment supply is limited by using a rectangular closed duct combining an innovative system to control the rate of sediment supply Qin, and a digitizing system to measure in real time the 3D bedform topography.
