TL;DR: This unique, robust validation dataset will allow scholars to evaluate the performance of different verbal autopsy analytic methods as well as instrument design and can be used to inform the implementation of verbal autopsies to more reliably ascertain cause of death in national health information systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of an 11-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine against radiologically confirmed pneumonia among children less than 2 years of age in the Philippines: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Marilla G. Lucero,Hanna Nohynek,Gail M. Williams,Veronica Tallo,Eric A. F. Mäkelä +18 more
TL;DR: In the United States and Africa, pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) have demonstrated efficacy against childhood invasive pneumococc disease (IPD) and pneumonia as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using verbal autopsy to measure causes of death: the comparative performance of existing methods
Christopher J L Murray,Rafael Lozano,Abraham D. Flaxman,Peter T. Serina,David Phillips,A W Stewart,Spencer L. James,Alireza Vahdatpour,Charles Atkinson,Michael Freeman,Summer Lockett Ohno,Robert E. Lopez +41 more
TL;DR: Physician review of verbal autopsy questionnaires is less accurate than automated methods in determining both individual and population causes of death and Tariff performs as well or better than other methods and should be widely applied in routine mortality surveillance systems with poor cause of death certification practices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lopez +58 more
TL;DR: Tariff 2.0 provides an estimation of COD from VAs with better performance at the individual and population level than the previous version of this method, and it is publicly available for use.
Journal ArticleDOI

Peter T. Serina,Ian Riley,A W Stewart,Abraham D. Flaxman,Rafael Lozano,Meghan D. Mooney,Richard Luning,Bernardo Hernández,Robert E. Black,R.C. Ahuja,Nurul Alam,Sayed Saidul Alam,Said M. Lopez +56 more
TL;DR: A shortened version of the VAI developed for the Population Health Metrics Research Consortium (PHMRC) Gold Standard Verbal Autopsy Validation Study using a systematic approach reduces the burden of time and resources required for data collection and analysis of cause of death data in civil registration systems.
