Journal ArticleDOI
Use of a weather radar for the hydrology of a mountainous area. Part I: radar measurement interpretation
TL;DR: In this article, the main sources of error affecting the quantitative use of weather radar data are examined with special attention paid to the influence of topography and altitude on the accuracy of radar measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geostatistical radar–raingauge merging: A novel method for the quantification of rain estimation accuracy
Guy Delrieu,Annette Wijbrans,Brice Boudevillain,Dominique Faure,Laurent Bonnifait,Pierre-Emmanuel Kirstetter +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a two-step procedure is implemented for estimating the rain estimation accuracy: (i) first kriging normalized ESDs are computed by using normalized variograms (sill equal to 1) to account for the observation system configuration and the spatial structure of the variable of interest (rainfall amount, residuals to the drift).
Journal ArticleDOI
Bollène-2002 Experiment: Radar Quantitative Precipitation Estimation in the Cévennes–Vivarais Region, France.
Guy Delrieu,Brice Boudevillain,John Nicol,Benoît Chapon,Pierre-Emmanuel Kirstetter,Hervé Andrieu,Dominique Faure +6 more
TL;DR: The Bollene-2002 Experiment was aimed at developing the use of a radar volume-scanning strategy for conducting radar rainfall estimations in the mountainous regions of France, and several algorithms were specifically produced as part of this project as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of the Altitudinal Gradients of Precipitation on the Radar QPE Bias in the French Alps
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed relative altitudinal gradients of precipitation estimated with rain gauges measurements in 2016 for three massifs around Grenoble, and for different temporal accumulations (yearly, seasonal, monthly, daily).
Journal ArticleDOI
Prototype de ré-analyses pluviométriques pour la région Cévennes-Vivarais
Guy Delrieu,Brice Boudevillain,Annette Wijbrans,Dominique Faure,Laurent Bonnifait,Pierre-Emmanuel Kirstetter,Audrey Confoland +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a methodology to estimate rainfall based on radar and raingauge data available from operational networks in the Cevennes-Vivarais region, France is described.
