Journal ArticleDOI

Hemostatic markers before operation in patients with acutely symptomatic nonruptured and ruptured infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm

TL;DR: Preoperative hemostatic markers, particularly PF 1+2 level and PAI activity, may distinguish acutely symptomatic nonruptured from ruptured AAA and are shown to be associated with increased systemic fibrinolysis and reduced thrombin generation as compared with rupture.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy for the Treatment of Chronic Venous Ulceration: A Preliminary Study

TL;DR: Following UGFS as an adjunct to compression, 96% of CVU healed within 3 months and only 2 healed ulcers had recurred at 12 months, which appears to be an attractive minimally-invasive alternative to surgery to treat SVR in patients with CVU, especially the elderly and frail.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of smoking status in patients with peripheral arterial disease

TL;DR: The novel rapid assay for urinary cotinine described here is superior to exhaled carbon monoxide measurement in detecting the level of smoking exposure among patients with intermittent claudication, and its results correlate well with laboratory-measured cotinines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum lactate and base deficit as predictors of mortality after ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

TL;DR: Serum lactate and base deficit are markers of tissue ischaemia and are used to assess the adequacy of resuscitation in patients undergoing repair of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), demonstrating that an immediate post-operative serum lactate or base deficit < or =-7 mmol/l are good predictors of outcome after ruptured AAA repair.
Journal ArticleDOI

Medium-term results of ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy for small saphenous varicose veins.

TL;DR: The aim was to review the medium‐term outcomes of ultrasound‐guided foam sclerotherapy for SSV and the role of minimally invasive alternatives remains incompletely defined.
