TL;DR: The application of non-crystallised silicone has provided a low level of the excess losses at low temperatures as mentioned in this paper, however, it was found that silicone crystallization caused a significant loss increase in coated MCVD fibres, irrespective of the secondary jacket material.
Abstract: Investigations of optical fibre losses in the range from -100°C to 20°C have shown that silicone crystallisation causes a significant loss increase in coated MCVD fibres, irrespective of the secondary jacket material. The application of noncrystallised silicone has provided a low level of the excess losses at low temperatures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the projected loss minima are 12 × 10−−4 dB/ km at 7.9 μm for KRS-6 and 7 × 10 −−4dB/km at 12.9 µm for kRS-5.
Abstract: Fundamental optical losses in the highly transparent region for thallium halide KRS-6 and KRS-5 crystals were evaluated. The projected loss minima are 12 × 10−−4 dB/ km at 7.9 μm for KRS-6 and 7 × 10−−4 dB/km at 12.9 μm for KRS-5 crystals. The material dispersion becomes zero near 5.05 μm for KRS-6 and near 6.62 μm for KRS-5 crystals.

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear conversion of a cw pump beam into a periodic train of intense, short pulses in a stimulated-Brillouin-scattering fiber laser was proposed.
Abstract: A method is proposed for the nonlinear conversion of a cw pump beam into a periodic train of intense, short pulses in a stimulated-Brillouin-scattering fiber laser. The pulses that are produced acquire the pump energy stored over a period of the resonator and have a length an order of magnitude shorter than the relaxation time of a hypersonic wave.
