Journal ArticleDOI
Bank and near-bank processes in an incised channel
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the role of matric suction, positive pore-water pressure and confining pressure for layered streambanks composed of cohesive materials in determining bank strength.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measuring streambank erosion due to ground water seepage: correlation to bank pore water pressure, precipitation and stream stage
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate the importance of streambank composition and stratigraphy in controlling seepage flow and quantify correlation of seepages flow/erosion with precipitation, stream stage and soil pore water pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling the Evolution of Incised Streams. II: Streambank Erosion
Eddy J. Langendoen,Andrew Simon +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a channel evolution model based on the CONCEPTS conservational channel evolution and pollutant transport system is proposed to simulate streambank-failure processes. But the model is tested against observed streambank erosion of a bendway on Goodwin Creek, Miss. between March 1996 and March 2001, where it accurately predicts the rate of retreat of the outside bank of the bendway.
Journal ArticleDOI
A simplified 2D model for meander migration with physically-based bank evolution
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a new approach that calculates rates of river meander migration using physically-based streambank erosion formulations, which can capture the complex long-term migration patterns of natural channels which cannot be merely predicted from hydrodynamics only.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial variability in bank resistance to erosion on a large meandering, mixed bedrock-alluvial river
Kory Konsoer,Bruce L. Rhoads,Eddy J. Langendoen,James L. Best,Mick Ursic,Jorge D. Abad,Marcelo H. Garcia +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the lateral and vertical heterogeneity in bank material properties and riparian vegetation within two elongate meander loops on a large mixed bedrock-alluvial river using several geotechnical field and laboratory methods.
