Postoperative myocardial ischemia. Therapeutic trials using intensive analgesia following surgery. The Study of Perioperative Ischemia (SPI) Research Group.
Dennis T. Mangano,Deanna Siliciano,Milton Hollenberg,Jacqueline M. Leung,Warren S. Browner,Paul Goehner,Scott Merrick,Edward D. Verrier +7 more
TL;DR: Using continuous two-channel electrocardiographic monitoring, ECG changes consistent with ischemia were documented and characterized during the preoperative, intraoperative (pre- and postbypass), and postoperative (on- and off-treatment) periods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term cardiac prognosis following noncardiac surgery

TL;DR: It is concluded that survivors of in-hospital perioperative ischemic events, specifically myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and postoperative ischemia, warrant more aggressive long-term follow-up and treatment than is currently practiced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial cell injury in cardiovascular surgery: the systemic inflammatory response.
TL;DR: It is conceivable that once the molecular mechanisms of endothelial cell activation are better defined, therapies will be developed allowing the selective or collective inhibition of vascular endothelial activation during the perioperative period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in transfusion therapy and reexploration rate after institution of a blood management program in cardiac surgical patients
TL;DR: Use of TEG monitoring before reexploration has decreased the cost and potential risk for patients undergoing CABG surgery and the incidence of reoperation for hemorrhage.
