Disclosed are embodiments of systems and methods for prioritizing mobile media player files by providing for the automated addition and/or deletion of media items for a mobile media player. In some embodiments, a statistical method may be provided for inferring which media items on a mobile media player should be deleted based on, for example, user taste data. In some embodiments, new media items may be loaded onto a user's mobile media player by creating one or more playlists from a playlist builder. The playlist(s) may be created by using user taste data. Rankings may also be created to determine an order for deletion of the media items currently on a mobile media player and/or for addition of new media items to the device.

Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying a new set of media items in response to an input set (or “query set”) of media items and knowledge base metrics. The system uses a knowledge base consisting of a collection of mediasets. Various metrics among media items are considered by analyzing how the media items are grouped to form the mediasets in the knowledge base. Such association or “similarity” metrics are preferably stored in a matrix form that allows the system to efficiently identify a new set of media items that complements the input set of media items.

Methods and arrangements for facilitating media playlist generation for a program participant based at least in part on media library inventory information provided by a number of program participants. The system or program in which the individuals are participating is an on-line media store. Those individuals that decide to be program participants are interested in organizing, maintaining and playing their music, based at least in part, on data derived from a population of other participants in the program that have similar or the same music in their libraries. To be a program participant, the individual music holder must send, and the on-line music store receive, data representative of that program participant's media inventory. This data typically contains identification data of the individual media items presently contained in that participant's media library regardless of the individual media item's source. The system or program determines an incidence of co-occurrence of pairs of individual media items in different program participants' media libraries. Based on this determination, a similarity rating is assigned between the pairs of individual media items based on the determined incidence of co-occurrence in the different program participants' media libraries.

System and method for playlist generation based on similarity data

Embodiments of the invention are concerned with modification of messages en route to a destination. One such modification is the addition of third party material, such as advertisement data, to a message. Conventionally, such a modification of messages occurs in accordance with some input from the sender of the message, and, to enable the sender to indicate the nature of the desired modification, the terminal corresponding to the sender has to be equipped with bespoke software. A service located in the network then receives the sender's message and decodes the indicated modification in order to decide how to modify the message. When there are many subscribers to this service, each terminal needs to be adapted to allow indication of the desired modification to the message, and, if the adaptation is made by pushing data to such terminals over the network, this presents problems in terms of scalability and network traffic. In one aspect of the invention embodiments provide a method of modifying a message sent through a data communications network, the message including transmission data identifying one or more destinations of said message and a message body identifying content thereof which is specified by a sending party, the method including: selecting data, in response to receiving a said message, on the basis of at least one parameter that is not directly related to the location of the sending party, wherein the said selected data are not directly related to the content of the message; modifying said message so as to include the selected data therein; and transmitting the modified message to said one or more destinations in accordance with the transmission data. Thus in embodiments of the invention, decisions as to the nature of the modification of the message are made in accordance with a parameter that is unrelated to messages that are composed by the user, and thus no modifications are required to be made to subscriber's terminals.

This device identifies the plural instructions to be selected when the instructions are fetched to the pipeline 111. Plural selected subsets of the instructions are simultaneously executed in the pipeline 111. While any of the plural selected instructions is at any step of the pipeline 111, the state information of the system is sampled. When all the selected instructions go out of the pipeline, software is notified of it and therefore, the software can read any state information.
