Journal ArticleDOI
An autoradiographic analysis of the differential ascending projections of the dorsal and median raphe nuclei in the rat
Efrain C. Azmitia,Menahem Segal +1 more
TL;DR: The differential projections from the dorsal raphe and median raphe nuclei of the midbrain were autoradiographically traced in the rat brain after 3H‐proline micro‐injections to identify six ascending fiber tracts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modern views on an ancient chemical: serotonin effects on cell proliferation, maturation, and apoptosis.
TL;DR: Serotonin regulates cell proliferation, migration and maturation in a variety of cell types, including lung, kidney, endothelial cells, mast cells, neurons and astrocytes and in humans, 5-HT2A receptor drugs produce hallucinations.
Journal ArticleDOI
The neuropsychology of anxiety: an enquiry into the functions of the Septo-Hippocampal system, Gray J.A.. Oxford University Press, New York (1981), pp. 523.,£27.50
Journal ArticleDOI
Stimulation of astroglial 5-HT1A receptors releases the serotonergic growth factor, protein S-100, and alters astroglial morphology.
TL;DR: Using an antibody-blocking approach, it is shown that at least one of the growth-promoting factors released is the astroglial-specific protein S-100, which may be a particularly important observation, in view of studies implicating S- 100 in both Down's syndrome and Alzheimer's disease.
