Comorbidity burden in systemic sclerosis: beyond disease-specific complications
Eleni Pagkopoulou,Alexandra Arvanitaki,Dimitrios Daoussis,Alexandros Garyfallos,George D. Kitas,George D. Kitas,Theodoros Dimitroulas +6 more
TL;DR: It appears that comorbidities with significant impact on life expectancy, namely cardiovascular disease, infections, and cancer as well as phycological disorders affecting emotional and mental health are highly prevalent in SSc population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arterial stiffness correlates with progressive nailfold capillary microscopic changes in systemic sclerosis: results from a cross-sectional study.
Stergios Soulaidopoulos,Eleni Pagkopoulou,Niki Katsiki,Eva Triantafyllidou,Asterios Karagiannis,Alexandros Garyfallos,George D. Kitas,George D. Kitas,Theodoros Dimitroulas +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that arterial stiffness (as assessed by AIx-75) correlates with microvascular damage in patients with SSc, and no other significant correlations were found between macrovascular biomarkers and the capillaroscopic measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microcirculatory function deteriorates with advancing stages of chronic kidney disease independently of arterial stiffness and atherosclerosis.
Maria Schoina,Charalampos Loutradis,Evangelos Memmos,Theodoros Dimitroulas,Eleni Pagkopoulou,Michael Doumas,Asterios Karagiannis,Alexandros Garyfallos,Aikaterini Papagianni,Pantelis Sarafidis +9 more
TL;DR: Both structural and functional capillary density progressively decrease with advancing CKD stages, and eGFR, diabetes and increased PTH levels are independently associated with this reduction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pyoderma gangrenosum and pyogenic arthritis presenting as severe sepsis in a rheumatoid arthritis patient treated with golimumab
Anastasia Skalkou,Sofia-Magdalini Manoli,Alexandros Sachinidis,Vasilios Ntouros,Konstantinos Petidis,Eleni Pagkopoulou,Efstratios Vakirlis,Athina Pyrpasopoulou,Theodoros Dimitroulas +8 more
TL;DR: A rare case of a woman with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis who developed pyoderma gangrenosum whistle on treatment with golimumab, a fully humanized anti TNFa antibody is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Weak within-individual association of blood pressure and pulse wave velocity in hemodialysis is related to adverse outcomes.
Pantelis Sarafidis,Charalampos Loutradis,Christopher C. Mayer,Christopher C. Mayer,Antonios Karpetas,Eleni Pagkopoulou,Athanasios Bikos,Danai Faitatzidou,Siegfried Wassertheurer,Siegfried Wassertheurer,Christoph Schmaderer,Vassilios Liakopoulos,Aikaterini Papagianni,Gérard M. London +13 more
TL;DR: Weaker within-individual MBP-PWV association, based on ABPM recordings, is associated with higher risk of death and cardiovascular events in hemodialysis, and support that arterial stiffness insensitive to BP changes is the underlying factor for adverse outcomes in these individuals.
