Journal ArticleDOI
Levofloxacin to prevent bacterial infection in patients with cancer and neutropenia.
Giampaolo Bucaneve,Alessandra Micozzi,Francesco Menichetti,Pietro Martino,M. Stella Dionisi,Giovanni Martinelli,Bernardino Allione,Domenico D'Antonio,Maurizio Buelli,A. Maria Nosari,Daniela Cilloni,Eliana Zuffa,Renato Cantaffa,Giorgina Specchia,Sergio Amadori,Francesco Fabbiano,Giorgio Lambertenghi Deliliers,Francesco Lauria,Robin Foà,Albano Del Favero +19 more
TL;DR: Prophylactic treatment with levofloxacin is an effective and well-tolerated way of preventing febrile episodes and other relevant infection-related outcomes in patients with cancer and profound and protracted neutropenia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon alfa-2a as compared with conventional chemotherapy for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia.
Sante Tura,Michele Baccarani,Eliana Zuffa,Domenico Russo,Renato Fanin,Alfonso Zaccaria,Mauro Fiacchini +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared recombinant interferon alfa-2a with conventional chemotherapy (hydroxyurea or busulfan) in a trial designed to have a power of 80 percent to detect a difference of 20 percent in median survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dasatinib as first-line treatment for adult patients with Philadelphia chromosome–positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Robin Foà,Antonella Vitale,Marco Vignetti,Giovanna Meloni,Anna Guarini,Maria Stefania De Propris,Loredana Elia,Francesca Paoloni,Paola Fazi,Giuseppe Cimino,Francesco Nobile,Felicetto Ferrara,Carlo Castagnola,Simona Sica,Pietro Leoni,Eliana Zuffa,Claudio Fozza,Mario Luppi,Anna Candoni,Ilaria Iacobucci,Simona Soverini,Franco Mandelli,Giovanni Martinelli,Michele Baccarani +23 more
TL;DR: In adult Ph(+) ALL, induction treatment with dasatinib plus steroids is associated with a CHR in virtually all patients, irrespective of age, good compliance, no deaths, and a very rapid debulking of the neoplastic clone.
Journal Article
Interferon alfa versus chemotherapy for chronic myeloid leukemia: A meta-analysis of seven randomized trials
A. Delannoy,J. C. Kluin-Nelemans,A. Louwagie,P Stryckmanns,Stefan Suciu,Rüdiger Hehlmann,H Heimpel,Joerg Hasford,Eliana Zuffa,Michele Baccarani,S Tura,K. Ohnishi,R Ohno,N. C. Allan,P Shepherd,A Broustet,R Alison,M Clarke,H Duong,Richard Gray,E Greaves,Richard Peto,S. Richards,D Sinclair,Keith Wheatley +24 more
TL;DR: For patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia, the inclusion of IFN alpha in the therapeutic regimen produced substantially better 5-year survival than standard chemotherapy alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia: clinical and haematological parameters predicting survival in a series of 133 patients
Giuseppe Visani,C Finelli,U. Castelli,Maria Concetta Petti,Paolo Ricci,Nicola Vianelli,Lorenzo Gianni,Eliana Zuffa,M. A. Aloe Spiriti,Roberto Latagliata,Sa Pileri,Umberto Magrini,Luigi Gugliotta,Enrica Morra,Carlo Bernasconi,Franco Mandelli,Sante Tura +16 more
TL;DR: The prognostic value of 12 clinical and haematological parameters, recorded at diagnosis, in myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia was retrospectively analysed and suggested that a more intensive chemotherapy might be useful for younger patients with bad prognostic factors at diagnosis.
