Journal ArticleDOI

Terminal fall velocity: the legacy of Stokes from the perspective of fluvial hydraulics.

TL;DR: This review article, dedicated to the bicentenary celebration of Sir George Gabriel Stokes' birthday, presents the state-of-the-science of terminal fall velocity, highlighting his rich legacy from the perspective of fluvial hydraulics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrodynamics of water-worked and screeded gravel beds: A comparative study

TL;DR: In this article, the vertical profiles of the double-averaged streamwise velocity and the turbulence parameters, specifically the spatially averaged (SA) Reynolds shear and normal stresses, form-induced shear, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and forminduced TKE fluxes, quadrant analysis of SA Reynolds sheer stress, etc., are presented and analyzed critically by focusing on comparisons between a WGB and an SGB.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrodynamics of flow over two-dimensional dunes

TL;DR: In this article, the turbulence characteristics in flow over and within the interface of two-dimensional dunes are investigated experimentally, including spatial flow and turbulence quantities, their double-averaged profiles are also analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Near-bed turbulence structures in water-worked and screeded gravel-bed flows

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of coherent structures and their impact on the near-bed time-averaged flow structure in a water-worked gravel-bed (WGB) and a screeded gravelbed (SGB) is analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatially averaged dissipation rate in flows over water-worked and screeded gravel beds

TL;DR: In this paper, the spatially averaged (SA) turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) dissipation rate is studied experimentally in flows over water-worked gravel beds (WGBs) and a screeded gravel bed (SGB) measuring the instantaneous velocity field by the Particle Image Velocimetry system.
