Left Ventricular Mass and Risk of Stroke in an Elderly Cohort: The Framingham Heart Study
Mahesh Bikkina,Daniel Levy,Jane C. Evans,Martin G. Larson,Emelia J. Benjamin,Philip A. Wolf,William P. Castelli +6 more
TL;DR: Echocardiographically determined LVM-to-height ratio offers prognostic information beyond that provided by traditional cerebrovascular disease risk factors, and provides information that facilitates identification of individuals at high risk for stroke and transient ischemic attack.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotid artery atherosclerosis, MRI indices of brain ischemia, aging, and cognitive impairment: the Framingham study.
Jose R. Romero,Jose R. Romero,Alexa S. Beiser,Alexa S. Beiser,Sudha Seshadri,Emelia J. Benjamin,Emelia J. Benjamin,Joseph F. Polak,Ramachandran S. Vasan,Ramachandran S. Vasan,Rhoda Au,Rhoda Au,Charles DeCarli,Philip A. Wolf,Philip A. Wolf +14 more
TL;DR: Carotid atherosclerosis markers were associated with MRI indices of brain ischemia and aging and with cognitive impairment in a community-based sample of middle-aged adults, and the data suggest that internal carotid artery intima-media thickness may be a better marker for cognitive impairment than common carotids arteryintima- media thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hemodynamic Correlates of Blood Pressure Across the Adult Age Spectrum Noninvasive Evaluation in the Framingham Heart Study
Gary F. Mitchell,Na Wang,Joseph Palmisano,Martin G. Larson,Naomi M. Hamburg,Joseph A. Vita,Daniel Levy,Emelia J. Benjamin,Ramachandran S. Vasan +8 more
TL;DR: Higher pulse pressure at any age and higher pulse pressure with advancing age is associated predominantly with a larger forward pressure wave, and the influence of wave reflection on age-related differences in pulse pressure was minor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiac Dysfunction and Noncardiac Dysfunction as Precursors of Heart Failure With Reduced and Preserved Ejection Fraction in the Community
Carolyn S.P. Lam,Asya Lyass,Asya Lyass,Elisabeth Kraigher-Krainer,Joseph M. Massaro,Douglas S. Lee,Douglas S. Lee,Jennifer E. Ho,Daniel Levy,Margaret M. Redfield,Burkert Pieske,Emelia J. Benjamin,Emelia J. Benjamin,Ramachandran S. Vasan,Ramachandran S. Vasan +14 more
TL;DR: Antecedent cardiac dysfunction and noncardiac organ dysfunction are associated with increased incidence of HF, supporting the notion that HF is a progressive syndrome and underscoring the importance of non Cardiac factors in its occurrence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of Blood Pressure on Left Atrial Size: The Framingham Heart Study
TL;DR: Increased levels of systolic and pulse pressures (but not diastolic or mean arterial pressures) were significantly associated with increased left atrial size in this population-based study sample.
