Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative study of self-assembly of a range of monofunctional aliphatic molecules on magnetron-sputtered aluminium

TL;DR: In this article, the adsorption of a range of organic molecules from toluene onto the oxidized surface of magnetron-sputtered aluminium metal was studied using sessile drop water contact angle measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Friction Force Microscopy of Alkylphosphonic Acid and Carboxylic Acids Adsorbed on the Native Oxide of Aluminum

TL;DR: Evidence has been provided from PM-IRRAS that friction coefficients, determined from FFM data, may be correlated directly with variations in adsorbate molecular structure, and inferences are made that APA monolayers are better ordered than ACA monolayer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study of the Resistance of SAMs on Aluminium to Acidic and Basic Solutions Using Dynamic Contact Angle Measurement

TL;DR: The development of a method to determine the aqueous stability of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) using the Wilhelmy plate dynamic contact angle (DCA) experiment and the packing density inferred from the DCA suggests the C18CO2H monolayer to be slightly less well packed than that of the C 18P(=O)(OH)2; this is consistent with related friction force microscopy and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy findings.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative Investigations of the Packing and Ambient Stability of Self-Assembled Monolayers of Alkanethiols on Gold and Silver by Friction Force Microscopy

TL;DR: The frictional behavior of self-assembled monolayers formed by the adsorption of alkanethiols onto silver surfaces has been investigated by friction force microscopy (FFM) and compared with the behavior observed for SAMs on gold as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

bodycote International Prize Paper Competition: Shortlisted Characterisation of Alkyl Phosphonic Acid Monolayers Self Assembled on Hydrated Surface of Aluminium

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of the aluminium surface chemistry produced by conditioning through ambient atmospheric and ethanoic methyl phosphonic acid solution immersion was investigated, where contact angle measurement revealed rapid formation of relatively disordered self assembled monolayers (SAMs) from a 5 mM ethanoisic solution.
