Time variation of Kepler transits induced by stellar spots - a way to distinguish between prograde and retrograde motion. II. Application to KOIs
Tomer Holczer,Avi Shporer,Tsevi Mazeh,Tsevi Mazeh,Daniel C. Fabrycky,Gil Nachmani,Amy McQuillan,Roberto Sanchis-Ojeda,Jerome A. Orosz,William F. Welsh,Eric B. Ford,Daniel Jontof-Hutter +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the derived transit timing variation (TTV) of some transiting planets observed by the $Kepler$ mission to distinguish between prograde and retrograde motion of their orbits with respect to their parent stars' rotation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Choice of Observing Schedules for Astrometric Planet Searches
TL;DR: In this article, Monte Carlo simulations of SIM planet searches were conducted to understand the effects of different scheduling algorithms and they found that the efficiency of planet searches is relatively insensitive to the observing schedule for most reasonable observing schedules.
Journal ArticleDOI
The hot-Jupiter Kepler-17b: discovery, obliquity from stroboscopic starspots, and atmospheric characterization
Jean-Michel Desert,David Charbonneau,Brice-Olivier Demory,Sarah Ballard,Joshua A. Carter,Jonathan J. Fortney,William D. Cochran,Michael Endl,Samuel N. Quinn,Howard Isaacson,Francois Fressin,Lars A. Buchhave,David W. Latham,Heather Knutson,Stephen T. Bryson,Guillermo Torres,Jason F. Rowe,Natalie M. Batalha,William J. Borucki,Timothy M. Brown,Douglas A. Caldwell,Jessie L. Christiansen,Drake Deming,Daniel C. Fabrycky,Eric B. Ford,Ronald L. Gilliland,Michaël Gillon,Michael R. Haas,Jon M. Jenkins,Karen Kinemuchi,David G. Koch,Jack J. Lissauer,Fergal Mullally,Phillip J. MacQueen,Geoffrey W. Marcy,Dimitar Sasselov,Sara Seager,Martin Still,Peter Tenenbaum,Kamal Uddin,Joshua N. Winn +40 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the discovery and characterization of the transiting hot giant exoplanet Kepler-17b, which has an orbital period of 1.486 days and radial velocity measurements from the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) show a Doppler signal of 420+/-15 m.
Journal ArticleDOI
Erratum: “Secular Evolution of Hierarchical Triple Star Systems” (ApJ, 535, 385 [2000])
Book ChapterDOI
The Long-Term Dynamical Evolution of Planetary Systems
Melvyn B. Davies,Fred C. Adams,Philip J. Armitage,John Chambers,Eric B. Ford,Alessandro Morbidelli,Sean N. Raymond,Dimitri Veras +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the long-term dynamical evolution of planetary systems from both theoretical and observational perspectives, and consider how these interactions apply to extrasolar planetary systems and explore the constraints provided by observed systems.
