Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of sleep deficiency and use of hypnotic drugs in astronauts before, during, and after spaceflight: an observational study

TL;DR: Sleep deficiency in astronauts was prevalent not only during space shuttle and ISS missions, but also throughout a 3 month preflight training interval, and use of sleep-promoting drugs was pervasive during spaceflight.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diurnal spectral sensitivity of the acute alerting effects of light.

TL;DR: The alerting effects of short-wavelength 460-nm light are mediated by counteracting both the circadian drive for sleepiness and homeostatic sleep pressure at night, but only via reducing the effects of homeostatics sleep pressure during the day.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neurobehavioral performance impairment in insomnia: relationships with self-reported sleep and daytime functioning.

TL;DR: It is found that insomnia patients exhibit deficits in higher level neurobehavioral functioning, but not in basic attention, which indicates that neuro behavioral deficits in insomnia are due to neurobiological alterations, rather than sleepiness resulting from chronic sleep deficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Circadian Rhythm Disorders and Melatonin Production in 127 Blind Women with and without Light Perception

TL;DR: The findings suggest that the etiology of blindness in addition to LP status is related to an individual’s ability to process the circadian light signal.
