The National Institutes of Health Oversight of Human Gene Transfer Research: Enhancing Science and Safety

TL;DR: The National Institutes of Health oversight of human gene transfer research, which is defined as the deliberate transfer of recombinant and/or synthetic nucleic acid molecules to humans, originates with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transfer of a constitutive viral pormoter–cystic fibrosis transmembrance conductance regulator cDNA to human epithelial cells conveys resistance to down-regulation of cAMP-regulated Cl− secretion in the presence of inflammatory stimuli

TL;DR: In vitro data suggest that a constitutive viral promoter--CFTR cDNA unit should be resistant to modulation by inflammatory stimuli, a likely requirement for successful gene therapy for CF.
