Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of cryopreservation on sperm parameters, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes activity in fowl semen.
TL;DR: The present study showed that the activity of CAT, GPx and SOD in chicken semen was affected by cryopreservation, what increased the intensity of lipid peroxidation (LPO).
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of fresh and frozen-thawed fowl semen by flow cytometry
TL;DR: Fluorescent staining and flow cytometry may be useful for assessment of the changes of fowl semen quality caused by cryopreservation process, as this technique allows precise examination of spermatozoa functional characteristic in a very short time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes activity in avian semen
TL;DR: Data from the present study clearly show the species-specific differences in the activity of antioxidant defense and LPO, which might suggest that spermatozoa were under greater oxidative stress and the enzymes were not utilized for the protection of functionally and structurally impaired cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attempts on freezing the Greylag (Anser anser L.) gander semen.
TL;DR: The Greylag gander spermatozoa susceptibility to cryopreservation procedure is as high as in domestic ganders, particularly while compared to 1-year-old White Koluda ganders semen, which withstood cryoinjury stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of lipid peroxidation in frozen-thawed avian spermatozoa using C(11)-BODIPY(581/591).
TL;DR: The data clearly indicate the existence of species specific differences in susceptibility of spermatozoa to the oxidation of PUFAs in the cell membranes, where such oxidation is caused by cryopreservation.
