TL;DR: In this paper, a measurement of low-mass electron pairs observed in 158 GeV/nucleon Pb-Au collisions is reported, where the pair yield integrated over the range of invariant masses 0.2 ≤ m ≤ 2.0 GeV 2 is enhanced by a factor of 3.5 ± 0.4 (stat) ± 1.9 (syst) over the expectation from neutral meson decays.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of the low-mass e + e − − -pair analysis are presented. But the most critical item is the poor signal-to-background ratio, which is discussed with the help of a detailed Monte Carlo simulation.

TL;DR: The CERES/NA45 experiment at the CERN SPS was upgraded in 1998 by the addition of a cylindrical Time Projection Chamber (TPC) to improve the mass resolution of e+e− pairs in the ρ/ω/φ region to Δm/m < 2 as mentioned in this paper.
