Reliability modeling and availability analysis of combined cycle power plants

Unpredictable nature of renewable energy sources puts power system operators in different conditions in terms of maintaining the system reliability. Microgrids (MGs) can provide an effective solution for the problems of grid-connected renewable energy sources due to their tuning capability and flexibility. In this study, a stochastic optimization strategy was proposed for participating in energy market operations considering demand response (DR). The results indicated the operating cost decreased when the MG implemented DR programs. Also, DR program could shift energy consumption from on- to off-peak hours and flatten the load curve. Therefore, a scheduling model was presented for the operation of energy carriers and reserves considering security constraints of power and natural gas grids in interconnected hubs as well as responsive load participation using the developed water wave optimization (WWO) algorithm. The objective function of this model aimed to minimize the operating cost of sources to supply electrical and thermal loads applied to the proposed MG. WWO is a meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by the behavior of water waves. The waves formed on the sea surface have complex, but interesting, relationships that can be used to solve optimization problems. In this algorithm, each problem solution is encoded as a water wave and undergoes changes in the problem search space based on three behaviors of propagation, refraction, and decay of water waves or problem solutions. The simplicity of the structure of this method, elitism and the ability to escape from local points due to the existence of different search operators and the mutation of generations have led to the use of this method. The results indicated a decline in operating costs through electrical and thermal responsive load participation and thermal energy storage system. Results of the proposed model revealed a correlation between the electricity price and natural gas consumption, indicating multi-carrier energy grids should be examined and optimized simultaneously.

Nowadays, the internet of things (IoT) presents a strong focus of research with various initiatives working on the application, and usage of Internet standards in the IoT. But the big challenge of the internet of things is security. In this paper a layered classification and a goal based comparison of attacks in the IoT are presented so that a better understanding of IoT attacks can be achieved and subsequently more efficient and effective techniques and procedures to combat these attacks may be developed.

Internet of Things Security: Layered classification of attacks and possible Countermeasures

Owing to the smart lifestyle, environmental consciousness, and dwindling fossil fuel supplies, there is a huge demand for clean and green energy. Microgrid (MG) is a crucial approach to renewable and clean energy. Because of the success of the AC utility grid and the growing demand for critical loads, it is very convenient to provide AC/DC MG that can easily satisfy both the alternating current (AC) MG and the direct current (DC) MG requirements. Due to uncertainty in load variations, main grid failures, intermittent power generations from renewable energy sources (RESs), the synchronization and interconnection of different power converters are the paramount issues in the control of AC/DC MG. This article presents an overview-oriented state of the art in the recent advancement in control strategies of AC/DC MG and its associated power converters control. Based on recent research, this article summarizes unobstructed views on different topologies, types of power converters, power converter controls, and control strategies of AC/DC MG. Finally, it identified some future challenges that need to be addressed in order to develop a sustainable and reliable control strategy for AC/DC MG. This article will serve as a guide for researchers.

A Comprehensive Review on Power Converters Control and Control Strategies of AC/DC Microgrid

Proposing energy efficient routing protocols for Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) and Wireless Sensor Network is an uphill and challenging task. Many different routing protocols based on different features have been proposed to the IETF. Performances of many of these routing protocols have been evaluated focusing on metrics such as delay, routing overhead, and packet delivery. However, no studies have been done to investigate energy aspect of these routing protocols. Thus, this paper will discuss about the power consumption aspect of the MANET routing protocols. A performance comparison of Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocols with respect to average energy consumption and routing energy consumption are explained thoroughly. Then, an evaluation of how the varying metrics in diverse scenarios affect the power consumption in these two protocols is discussed. A detailed simulation model using Network Simulator 2 (NS2) with different mobility and traffic models are used to study their energy consumption. Finally, an evaluation of these routing protocols based on energy consumption is presented.

In this paper, I describe briefly some of the different types of attacks on wireless sensor networks such as Sybil, HELLO, Wormhole and Sinkhole attacks. Then I describe security analysis of some major routing protocols in wireless sensor network such as Directed Diffusion, TinyOS beaconing, geographic and Rumor routings in term of attacks and security goals. As a result I explain some secure routing protocols for wireless sensor network and is discussed briefly some methods and policy of these protocols to meet their security requirements. At last some simulation results of these protocols that have been done by their designer are mentioned.

Security Analysis of Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

This study proposes a cost-effective four-switch single-phase to three-phase converter with an improved space vector pulse width modulation method. This structure employs the quasi-Z-source (QZs) topology that can be utilised in induction motor drive applications. Compared with conventional four-switch structures, buck-boost operation is a unique property of this configuration. This four-switch QZs structure decreases the switching losses, load current total harmonic distortion and cost in comparison with traditional six-switch structures. Without using any extra filtering circuits, the applied modulation method can work well to reject the influence of DC-link voltage ripples on the converter voltage, which can be accomplished by either power supply or voltage variations in the four-switch structure. The closed-loop modulation strategy recognises via sensing any unbalanced voltage that occurs across two split capacitors, and by applying the changes in the vector's activation interval time, the three-phase output voltage can be balanced. The simulation and experimental results of the suggested converter with the improved modulation method have demonstrated the converter's performance and the potential of the structure to be further developed.
