BACKGROUND
The use of nonpharmacological modalities in managing symptoms experienced by patients with cancer is increasingly important in providing holistic care. However, limited studies have reported on integrating nonpharmacological interventions to improve physical and psychological symptoms of women with gynecological cancer.


OBJECTIVE
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a multimodal nursing intervention (MNI) on sleep quality, fatigue, and level of depression among Indonesian women with gynecological cancer.


METHODS
The quasi-experimental nonequivalent group design involved 50 patients in 2 groups and used convenience sampling. An experimental group (n = 25) received MNI including progressive muscle relaxation and a counseling session; the control group received routine hospital care (n = 25). Sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), depression levels by the Beck Depression Inventory-II, and fatigue by the Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS). Pretest data were collected after 3 days of hospital admission; posttest data were gathered after the intervention.


RESULTS
The PSQI (P = .000), Beck Depression Inventory-II (P = .008), and PFS (P = .000) changed significantly in the intervention group; the PSQI (P = .000) and PFS (P = .000) in the control group changed significantly. The PSQI (P = .00) and PFS (P = .000) scores differed significantly between the 2 groups before and after the intervention. The effect size of the MNI for difference scores before and after the intervention was medium effect size.


CONCLUSIONS
The role of nonpharmacological modalities in managing symptoms experienced by patients with cancer is increasingly important to providing holistic care.


IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE
Gynecology nurses can lead the implementation of MNI to decrease patient fatigue and depression and to increase sleep quality.

Effectiveness of a Multimodal Nursing Intervention on Quality of Sleep, Fatigue, and Level of Depression Among Indonesian Patients With Gynecological Cancer: A Pilot Study.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that can cause many complications. Some of the problems that can arise in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, one of the causes is low self-management behavior.This study aims to determine self-management in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research is a descriptive study. The variable in this study was self-management in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. This research was a descriptive study. The population in this study were all type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who routinely exercised control at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Ngudi Waluyo Wlingi Hospital, Blitar Regency in December 2021, namely 156 people. The sample in this study based on the sample size formula was 112 people with a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling with regard to inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research was conducted from January to February 2022 at the Internal Medicine Clinic at Ngudi Waluyo Wlingi Hospital, Blitar Regency. Data collection in this study used general data instruments consisting of age, gender, routine control, level of education, and duration of DM. Specific data questionnaire using the SDMQ Questionnaire (Diabetes Self Management Questionnaire) which consists of 16 questions with several subdomains in it. The results of this study indicated that 69.6% (78 respondents) had good category of self-management and 30.4% (34 respondents) had sufficient category of respondents. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as a form of input for health workers, especially nurses, in carrying out their roles as educators and counselors to improve self-management in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients to improve quality of life and prevent complications.

Self Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients at The Internist Polyclinic of Ngudi Waluyo General Hospital Blitar Distric

This study aims to create a practical tool for hydrostatic pressure material, increasing student motivation, and learning outcomes. The lack of student motivation, namely the desire to learn science subjects and the learning outcomes of hydrostatic pressure material is caused by several factors, one of which is the lack of teaching aids or practical tools for hydrostatic pressure material. The study was conducted using a one-group pre-test – post-test trial design, while the development of the Egg Cannon Kit used the ASSURE model which consisted of 6 stages, namely Analyzer learner characteristic, (2) State standard and performance objective, (3) Select methods, Media, and materials, (4) Utilize technology, media, and materials, (5) Require learner participation and (6) Evaluation and revision. The research on the development of the Egg Cannon Kit was tested on 8E grade students consisting of 32 students with heterogeneous compositions. The use of the Egg Cannon Kit in learning can increase students' learning motivation in this case the student's desire to learn about science subjects, especially hydrostatic pressure material by 43.36% and increase learning outcomes with an average n-gain of 0.8 in the high category.

Pengembangan KIT Meriam Telur untuk Meningkatkan Motivasi dan Hasil Belajar Siswa

Background: Diabetes mellitus is often termed the modern epidemic, and India ranks second after China in the global disease burden. Practice and adherence to essential self-care behaviors, positively correlated with good glycemic control and reduced complications in people with diabetes, have been inadequately understood, especially in a semi-urban setting. Methods: This community-based interventional study was done among 269 known adult type 2 diabetic patients from a semi-urban community in South India for three months. By simple random sampling, known diabetics identified in the health survey by the tertiary care teaching institute were considered for the study. Self-care practices in diabetes were recorded in the pre-test using a validated semi-structured questionnaire. Two health education sessions, each for 30 minutes, were conducted with 15-20 subjects in a group. Health education materials on self-care in diabetes, such as charts, handouts, video clippings, and PowerPoint presentations in the local language, were used. The self-care practices were re-recorded in the post-test after two months. Inferential statistics were carried out with a t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficient, and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 253 diabetic subjects were included in the final analysis, with an attrition rate of 6%. The mean age of participants was 56.5 ± 11.9 years. The mean score of self-care practices among diabetic subjects at the baseline was 14.6 ± 13.2. Illiteracy and smoking habit were significantly associated with lower self-care scores in the pre-test. In the post-test, after health education, there was a significant improvement in the mean self-care practices score and a reduction in the mean fasting blood sugar level. Also, a significant mild negative correlation between the self-care scores and blood sugar levels was seen (Pearson correlation coefficient = -0.21, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Self-care practices, which were not satisfactory in most diabetic participants, were found to be significantly impacted by the small group education. This stresses the need for effective health education sessions as envisaged under the national program.

Effectiveness of a Multimodal Nursing Intervention on Quality of Sleep, Fatigue, and Level of Depression Among Indonesian Patients With Gynecological Cancer

Statistical results estimated that most of non-remissive cancer patients face sleep problem and experience the symptoms of insomnia throughout and after the completion of cancer treatment. The purpose of this review was to compare the effectiveness between several types of non-pharmacological interventions and standard care or treatment to improve the sleep quality among non-remissive cancer patients. All randomized studies focused on non-pharmacological interventions to improve sleep quality among non-remissive cancer patients were included. Thirteen studies were selected with a total of 1,617 participants. The results found that only four interventions were significantly effective to improve sleep quality among non-remissive cancer patients, included cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation and guided imagery program, self-care behavior education program, and energy and sleep enhancement program.

The effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions in improvement of sleep quality among non-remissive cancer patients: A systematic review of randomized trials

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is caused by the disruption of insulin secretion and resistance. One aspect that plays an important role in this disease is self-management education. Good self-care behavior facilitates controlled diabetes management and prevents complications as well as ensures a better life quality. This literature aims to study the philosophy of diabetes self-management based care interventions to improve the quality of life viewed from philosophical perspectives. A literature search was performed on Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, and Science Direct using keywords including type 2 diabetes mellitus, diabetes self-management and quality of life. The inclusion criteria are peer-reviewed articles in English that discuss diabetes self-management and quality of life. Articles published within the last five years (2017-2021). Research such as a randomized controlled trial (RCT) and full text method. Based on the philosophy study self care interventions, eight articles showed that self-management interventions provide significant effectiveness for lifestyle changes and self-care for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Eight articles were selected based on an axiological philosophical study approach, six of which discussed self-management interventions effect on self-care behavior, and two measured the quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Almost all the articles stated an increase in self-care behaviors and quality of life after receiving self-management interventions. Successful diabetes self-management depends on individual self-care activities to control symptoms presented. Furthermore, regular self-management activities prevent complications from arising. Therefore, patients compliance with diabetes self-management is needed to improve their life quality.

The Impact of Self-Management-Based Care Interventions on Quality of Life in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients: A Philosophical Perspective

Competition has been widely used as the behaviour change technique for physical activity intervention (Peng, Crouse, & Lin, 2012), this approach might push someone motivation to achieve the desired behaviour. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the mediating effects of the motivation on the competition intervention effectiveness. An experimental research was conducted where participants were randomly allocated into one of two groups (control and competition group). For calculating the motivation types, Behavioural Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-2) was administered. The results revealed that motivation was not found to mediate the effect of competition intervention.
