HIV risk among MSM in Senegal: a qualitative rapid assessment of the impact of enforcing laws that criminalize same sex practices.

TL;DR: An effective response to the HIV epidemic in Senegal should include active work to decrease enforcement of this law, and service providers suspended HIV prevention work with MSM out of fear for their own safety.
Journal ArticleDOI

Epidemiology of HIV among female sex workers, their clients, men who have sex with men and people who inject drugs in West and Central Africa.

TL;DR: A systematic review of HIV literature among key populations in WCA was conducted since the onset of the HIV epidemic, finding that the virus is more concentrated among female sex workers, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs and clients of FSWs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancing benefits or increasing harms: community responses for HIV among men who have sex with men, transgender women, female sex workers, and people who inject drugs.

TL;DR: The results of the review suggest that although health communication programs represent community-level strategies that have demonstrated the effectiveness in increasing the uptake of HIV testing and decreasing the experienced stigma among people living with HIV, there are limited studies focused on key populations in low- and middle-income settings.
Journal ArticleDOI

An urgent need for integration of family planning services into HIV care: the high burden of unplanned pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, and limited contraception use among female sex workers in Côte d'Ivoire.

TL;DR: In this paper, the burden of unintended pregnancy among FSWs including maternal and infant outcomes in the context of HIV is largely unknown and half of FSW experiencing termination of pregnancy did so without a medical professional resulting in frequent complications.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Prevalence of Sexual Behavior Stigma Affecting Gay Men and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men Across Sub-Saharan Africa and in the United States.

TL;DR: The prevalence of sexual behavior stigma among MSM in the United States appears to have a high absolute burden and similar pattern as the same forms of stigma reported by MSM in Sub-Saharan Africa, although results may be influenced by differences in sampling methodology across regions.
