Image analysis of PDMS/ZnO nanocomposite surfaces for optimized superhydrophobic and self-cleaning surface design

Superhydrophobic materials have a good application prospect in self-cleaning, anti-fouling, anti-corrosion, and anti-freezing. However, creating large areas of simple, efficient, and environmentally friendly superhydrophobic surfaces remains a huge challenge. In this paper, a simple, environmentally friendly surface superhydrophobic preparation method is used based on 107 silicone rubber adhesive. A superhydrophobic coating with a micro/nano structure was constructed on the surface of fluorine rubber. The particle size and groups of HB-192V powder (mainly SiO2) were observed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The structures of two kinds of rubber surfaces were observed by SEM, and the superhydrophobic surface materials were qualitatively analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The hydrophobic properties of the superhydrophobic surface and the bouncing properties of droplets were analyzed by a contact angle measuring instrument and a high-speed camera. The results show that the preparation of superhydrophobic fluorine rubber on the surface of the water meter contact angle could reach an average of 154.1°. The superhydrophobic surface prepared by this method has a better hydrophobic and droplet bounce property.

Fecal microbiota transplantation holds the secret to youth

Ghrelin, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), and peptide YY (PYY) are potent hormones mediating food intake according to the nutritional status in fish. However, limited information is available on these genes and their expression in response to nutrition in silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus). A comparison analysis revealed that ghrelin and GLP-1 were relatively conserved in marine fish. PYYa and PYYb shared a low identity and were clustered to different PYY branches. Ghrelin, pyya, and pyyb mRNAs were highly expressed in the brain, while glp-1 was highly expressed in the gills and liver. The ghrelin mRNA expression was relatively high an hour post-feeding and decreased after 3 to 72 h of fasting. The glp-1 mRNA expression was increased after 6 to 24 h of fasting. The pyya mRNA expression was increased after 72 h of fasting, while the pyyb expression remained stable during fasting. The diet with 14% lipid promoted the expressions of glp-1, pyya, and pyyb, but inhibited the ghrelin expression. The ghrelin expression in the intestine was increased after palmitic acid, oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA), α-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) incubation. OA decreased the expression of glp-1 and increased the expression of pyya. The expression of pyyb was downregulated by LA, DHA, and EPA. These results suggest the importance of ghrelin, glp-1, and pyy in coordinating food intake in response to fasting, dietary lipid concentration, and fatty acids in silver pomfret.

Molecular Characterization and Expression Response of Ghrelin, GLP-1 and PYY to Fasting, Dietary Lipid, and Fatty Acids in Silver Pomfret (Pampus argenteus)

Superhydrophobic coatings are gaining popularity because of their low maintenance requirements, high durability, and wide range of potential uses. Such coatings, for instance, may provide beneficial resistance to fouling, icing, smear, and corrosion, and can separate oil from water. Therefore, the creation of superhydrophobic materials is a topic of great interest to academics all around the world. In this paper, a spray-coating deposition technique is used to deposit silica nanoparticles on glass while using a sol–gel as a base. The applied coating increased the transmittance to 99% at 600 nm. Water contact angle (WCA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of the coated layer’s grade index and induced porousness led to superhydrophobic behavior with a water contact angle that was higher than 158°.

Simple, Scalable Route to Produce Transparent Superhydrophobic/Hydrophilic Film Surfaces

Composite insulators are widely used in power systems because of their advantages of light weight, good pollution resistance, and high mechanical strength. With the increasingly serious environmental pollution problem, especially in winter at high latitudes, composite insulators are easily affected by fog, bird droppings, algae, and icing. Long-term exposure to the outdoor insulator surface will cause aging, which will then pose ae potential safety hazard to the stable operation of insulators. Therefore, the self-cleaning, anti-icing, and aging test technologies of composite insulators are particularly important. This paper introduces the research progress and current situation of self-cleaning, anti-icing surface preparation, and aging test technology of composite insulators, and looks forward to the future development of composite insulators.

Research Progress of Self-Cleaning, Anti-Icing, and Aging Test Technology of Composite Insulators

Salt homeostasis is orchestrated by both neural circuits and peripheral endocrine factors. The colon is one of the primary sites for electrolyte absorption, while its potential role in modulating sodium intake remains unclear. Here, we revealed that a gastrointestinal hormone, secretin, is released from colon endocrine cells under body sodium deficiency and is indispensable for inducing salt appetite. As the neural substrate, circulating secretin activates specific receptors in the nucleus of the solitary tracts, which further activates the downstream paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, resulting in enhanced sodium intake. These results demonstrated a previously unrecognized gut-brain pathway for the timely regulation of sodium homeostasis.
