Plant diversity patterns in neotropical dry forests and their conservation implications
Dryflor,Karina Banda-R,Alfonso Delgado-Salinas,Kyle G. Dexter,Kyle G. Dexter,Reynaldo Linares-Palomino,Reynaldo Linares-Palomino,Ary Teixeira de Oliveira-Filho,Darién E. Prado,Martin R. Toby Pennington +67 more
TL;DR: Using 835 inventories covering 4660 species of woody plants, marked floristic turnover among inventories and regions indicates that numerous conservation areas across many countries will be needed to protect the full diversity of tropical dry forests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ants on plants: a meta-analysis of the role of ants as plant biotic defenses
Félix Baumgarten Rosumek,Fernando A. O. Silveira,Frederico de Siqueira Neves,Newton P. U. Barbosa,Lívia Santos Diniz,Yumi Oki,Flávia Fonseca Pezzini,G. Wilson Fernandes,Tatiana Cornelissen +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that ants do act as plant biotic defenses, but the effects of their presence are more pronounced in tropical systems, especially in myrmecophytic plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in tree phenology along natural regeneration in a seasonally dry tropical forest
Flávia Fonseca Pezzini,Bernardo D. Ranieri,Daniela Brandão,Geraldo Wilson Fernandes,Mauricio Quesada,Mário M. Espírito-Santo,Claudia Maria Jacobi +6 more
TL;DR: The study suggests that classical forest succession theory developed for other ecosystems may not fully reflect the pattern of SDTF succession, an ecosystem that originally covered 42% of the earth's tropical and subtropical landmass.

Testing the regeneration niche hypothesis with Gesneriaceae (tribe Sinningiae) in Brazil: Implications for the conservation of rare species
Bernardo D. Ranieri,Flávia Fonseca Pezzini,Queila Souza Garcia,Alain Chautems,Marcel Giovanni Costa França +4 more
TL;DR: The germination results provide qualified support for the hypothesis of correlation of the regeneration niche with geographic distribution of related plant taxa, with important conservation implications for rare and endangered species.
