Journal ArticleDOI
High prevalence of pre-existing serological cross-reactivity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in sub-Saharan Africa.
For Yue Tso,Salum J. Lidenge,Phoebe B. Peña,Ashley A. Clegg,John R. Ngowi,Julius Mwaiselage,Owen Ngalamika,Peter Julius,John T. West,Charles E. Wood +9 more
TL;DR: Low SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease in SSA appears to correlate with pre-pandemic serological cross-recognition of HCoVs, which are substantially more prevalent in S SA than USA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Presence of antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) against SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 plasma.
For Yue Tso,Salum J. Lidenge,Lisa K. Poppe,Phoebe B. Peña,Sara R. Privatt,Sydney J. Bennett,John R. Ngowi,Julius Mwaiselage,Michael Belshan,Michael Belshan,Jacob A. Siedlik,Morgan A. Raine,Juan B. Ochoa,Julia Garcia-Diaz,Bobby D. Nossaman,Lyndsey R. Buckner,W. Mark Roberts,Matthew J. Dean,Augusto C. Ochoa,John T. West,Charles E. Wood +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, neutralizing and non-neutralizing COVID-19 plasmas can mediate ADCC in SARS-CoV-2 vaccine trials and demonstrate strong ADCC activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
RNA-Seq of Kaposi's sarcoma reveals alterations in glucose and lipid metabolism.
For Yue Tso,Andrew V. Kossenkov,Salum J. Lidenge,Salum J. Lidenge,Owen Ngalamika,John R. Ngowi,Julius Mwaiselage,Jayamanna Wickramasinghe,Eun Hee Kwon,John T. West,Paul M. Lieberman,Charles E. Wood +11 more
TL;DR: This is the first study that utilized high throughput RNA-seq to characterize the viral and cellular transcriptome in tumor and non-cancer biopsies of African epidemic KS patients and found remarkable variability in the viral transcriptome among these patients, with viral latency and immune modulation genes most abundantly expressed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolutionary and structural analyses of alpha-papillomavirus capsid proteins yields novel insights into L2 structure and interaction with L1
John J. Lowe,Debasis Panda,Suzanne Rose,Ty Jensen,Willie A Hughes,For Yue Tso,Peter C. Angeletti +6 more
TL;DR: This analysis shows the loops of L1 are in fact the most variable regions among the alpha-PVs, and identifies regions of L2, involved in interaction with L1, as evolutionarily conserved among the members of alpha- PVs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain is a potential sanctuary for subtype C HIV-1 irrespective of ART treatment outcome
TL;DR: It is shown that brain is a potential sanctuary for subtype C HIV-1, as HIV- 1 can be detected in the brain of infected individuals irrespective of ART treatment outcome and no compartmentalization of HIV-2 to specific brain compartments was evident.
