Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance shows cattle and poultry are a moderate source of multi-drug resistant non-typhoidal Salmonella in Mexico.
Enrique Jesús Delgado-Suárez,Tania Palós-Guitérrez,Francisco Alejandro Ruíz-López,Cindy Fabiola Hernández Pérez,Nayarit Emérita Ballesteros-Nova,Orbelín Soberanis-Ramos,Rubén Danilo Méndez-Medina,Marc W. Allard,María Salud Rubio-Lozano +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that attaining significant improvements in AMR meat safety requires the identification and removal (or treatment) of product harboring MDR NTS, instead of screening for Salmonella spp.

Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic Epidemiology of Salmonella enterica Circulating in Surface Waters Used in Agriculture and Aquaculture in Central Mexico
Nayarit Emérita Ballesteros-Nova,Sergio Sánchez,J. L. Steffani,Laura Cañada Sierra,Z. Chen,Francisco Alejandro Ruíz-López,Rebecca L. Bell,Elizabeth Reed,Maria Balkey,María Salud Rubio-Lozano,Orbelín Soberanis-Ramos,Francisco Barona-Gómez,Eric W. Brown,Marc W. Allard,Jianghong Meng,Enrique Jesús Delgado-Suárez +15 more
TL;DR: The role of surface waters as a vehicle for the transmission of Salmonella along food production chains is demonstrated and some strains circulating in surface waters are very similar to those implicated in human infections and harbor genes that confer resistance to multiple antibiotics, posing a risk to public health.
