Journal ArticleDOI
Redox Regulation and Oxidative Stress: The Particular Case of the Stallion Spermatozoa.
Fernando J. Peña,Cristian O'Flaherty,Jose Manuel Ortiz Rodriguez,Francisco Eduardo Martín Cano,Gemma Gaitskell-Phillips,María Concepción Robles Gil,Cristina Ortega Ferrusola +6 more
TL;DR: Horses are a good model for the study of redox biology in the spermatozoa and its impact on the embryo because of their intense mitochondrial activity and sophisticated systems to control redox homeostasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outbreaks of antimicrobial resistant Salmonella Choleraesuis in wild boars piglets from central-western Spain.
María Gil Molino,David Risco Pérez,Pilar Gonçalves Blanco,Pedro Fernández Llario,Alberto Quesada Molina,Alfredo García Sánchez,Jesús María Cuesta Gerveno,Luis Jesús Gómez Gordo,Francisco Eduardo Martín Cano,Remigio Martínez,Elisa Varela Fernández,Joaquín Rey Pérez +11 more
TL;DR: The present work aims to describe the clinical features of recent outbreaks caused by S. Choleraesuis in wild boar from central-western Spain, as well as the antimicrobial resistance and phylogenetic relationships of isolates involved, and shows that prevention against S.Cholerais must be considered in the sanitary programs of the wild boars breeders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of Salmonella spp. in tonsils, mandibular lymph nodes and faeces of wild boar from Spain and genetic relationship between isolates.
María Gil Molino,Alfredo García Sánchez,David Risco Pérez,Pilar Gonçalves Blanco,Alberto Quesada Molina,Joaquín Rey Pérez,Francisco Eduardo Martín Cano,Rosario Cerrato Horrillo,Javier Hermoso-de-Mendoza Salcedo,Pedro Fernández Llario +9 more
TL;DR: The importance of wild boars as carriers and possible transmitters of virulent and/or antimicrobial-resistant clones of Salmonella spp.
Journal ArticleDOI
The stallion spermatozoa: A valuable model to help understand the interplay between metabolism and redox (de)regulation in sperm cells.
Fernando J. Peña,Cristian O'Flaherty,José M. Ortiz-Rodríguez,Francisco Eduardo Martín Cano,Gemma Gaitskell-Phillips,Maria Cruz Gil,Cristina Ortega-Ferrusola +6 more
TL;DR: Increasing knowledge on sperm metabolism and its interactions with redox regulation, may improve current sperm technologies in use and shall provide new clues to the understanding of male factor infertility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of testicular echotexture with Ecotext as a diagnostic method of testicular dysfunction in stallions.
E. Da Silva-Álvarez,J. Ortiz-Rodríguez,Gemma Gaitskell-Phillips,C. Serres,Beatriz Garcia-Rodriguez,L. Gutiérrez-Cepeda,Francisco Eduardo Martín Cano,A. Echegaray,N. Escartin-Casas,F. Requena,M. Gil,F. Pena,Cristina Ortega-Ferrusola +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a new software for evaluation of testicular echotexture, called Ecotext, is used for diagnosis of stallions with testicular dysfunction (TD), and the relationship between testicular motility and production, testicular volume, and testicular blood flow are also studied.
