Visual shape perception in the case of transparent objects
Nick Schlüter,Franz Faul +1 more
TL;DR: The results show that the shape of transparent objects was perceived both less accurately and less precisely than in the opaque case, which suggests that in the transparent case, what kind of information is usable as a shape cue depends on a complex interplay of properties of the transparent object and the surrounding scene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toward a Perceptually Uniform Parameter Space for Filter Transparency
TL;DR: An invertible transformation of this parameter space is proposed that results in a more intuitively interpretable parameter set that seems well suited for the analysis of existing stimuli and the generation of transparent overlays with predefined perceptual properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of contrast polarities in binocular luster: Low-level and high-level processes.
Gunnar Wendt,Franz Faul +1 more
TL;DR: Evidence indicating that high-level processes are involved that promote the visual system's interpretation of the ring-stimuli as a certain depth-segmented 3D scene is discussed, suggesting that a common low-level mechanism determines the magnitude of the lustrous response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differences in Stereoscopic Luster Evoked by Static and Dynamic Stimuli.
Gunnar Wendt,Franz Faul +1 more
TL;DR: The results for static and dynamic stimuli differed in several ways, suggesting that they depend on different mechanisms: Compared with the static version, in dynamic stimuli, luster was perceived at markedly lower contrasts, did not depend on the sign of the contrast polarities, and appeared more steady.
