Journal ArticleDOI
Impedance measurements and modeling of a transition-edge-sensor calorimeter
Mark A. Lindeman,Simon R. Bandler,Regis P. Brekosky,James A. Chervenak,Enectali Figueroa-Feliciano,Fred M. Finkbeiner,Mary J. Li,Caroline A. Kilbourne +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the complex impedance of a Mo/Au superconducting transition-edge-sensor (TES) calorimeter and obtained measurements of unprecedented accuracy of the heat capacity and the gradient of resistance with respect to temperature and current.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proximity effects and nonequilibrium superconductivity in transition-edge sensors
John E. Sadleir,John E. Sadleir,Stephen J. Smith,Stephen J. Smith,Ian K. Robinson,Ian K. Robinson,Fred M. Finkbeiner,James A. Chervenak,Simon R. Bandler,Simon R. Bandler,Megan E. Eckart,Megan E. Eckart,Caroline A. Kilbourne +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that normal metal/superconductor (N/S) bilayer TESs with added noise-mitigating normal metal structures (N structures) exhibit weak-link behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of weak-link behavior on the performance of Mo/Au bilayer transition-edge sensors
Stephen J. Smith,Joseph S. Adams,C. N. Bailey,Simon R. Bandler,S. E. Busch,James A. Chervenak,Megan E. Eckart,Fred M. Finkbeiner,Caroline A. Kilbourne,Richard L. Kelley,Sang Jun Lee,J.-P. Porst,Frederick S. Porter,John E. Sadleir +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the impact of magnetic field on the performance of TES X-ray detectors under operational bias conditions, and showed that the sensitivity of the critical current of the TES to the applied magnetic field and bias point within the resistive transition can affect the signal response and noise.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of an X-ray Microcalorimeter with a 240 μm Absorber and a 50 μm TES Bilayer
A. R. Miniussi,A. R. Miniussi,Joseph S. Adams,Joseph S. Adams,Simon R. Bandler,James A. Chervenak,Aaron M. Datesman,Megan E. Eckart,Audrey J. Ewin,Fred M. Finkbeiner,Richard L. Kelley,Caroline A. Kilbourne,Frederick S. Porter,John E. Sadleir,Kazuhiro Sakai,Kazuhiro Sakai,Stephen J. Smith,Stephen J. Smith,Nicholas A. Wakeham,Nicholas A. Wakeham,Edward J. Wassell,Wonsik Yoon,Wonsik Yoon +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a new approach with 50μm square TESs consisting of a Mo/Au bilayer, deposited on silicon nitride membranes to provide a weak thermal conductance to a ~ 50mK heat bath.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demonstration of Athena X-IFU Compatible 40-Row Time-Division-Multiplexed Readout.
Malcolm Durkin,Joseph S. Adams,Simon R. Bandler,James A. Chervenak,Saptarshi Chaudhuri,C. Dawson,E. V. Denison,William B. Doriese,Shannon M. Duff,Fred M. Finkbeiner,Connor T. FitzGerald,Joseph W. Young +34 more
TL;DR: Data is presented showing 40-row TDM readout (32 TES rows + 8 repeats of the last row) of TESs that are of the same type as those being planned for X-IFU, using measurement and analysis parameters within the ranges specified for X -IFU.
