Suzuki–Miyaura (SM) cross-coupling is arguably the most widely-applied transition metal catalysed carbon–carbon bond forming reaction to date. Its success originates from a combination of exceptionally mild and functional group tolerant reaction conditions, with a relatively stable, readily prepared and generally environmentally benign organoboron reagent. A variety of such reagents have been developed for the process, with properties that have been tailored for application under specific SM coupling conditions. This review analyses the seven main classes of boron reagent that have been developed. The general physical and chemical properties of each class of reagent are evaluated with special emphasis on the currently understood mechanisms of transmetalation. The methods to prepare each reagent are outlined, followed by example applications in SM coupling.

Multidisciplinary research on novel organic luminescent dyes is propelled by potential applications in plastic electronics and biomedical sciences. The construction of sophisticated fluorescent dyes around a tetrahedral boron(III) center is a particular approach that has fueled the creativity of chemists. Success in this enterprise has been readily achieved with simple synthetic protocols, the products of which display unusual spectroscopic behavior. This account is a critical review of recent advances in the field of boron(III) complexes (excluding BODIPYs and acetylacetonate boron complexes) involving species displaying similar coordination features, and we outline their potential development in several disciplines.

Durch Vergleich der Reaktionsweisen ahnlicher und gezielt abgeanderter Chelatbildner bei Umsetzungen mit BF3 wird gezeigt, das die gegenuber den Diphenylborchelaten erschwerte Bildung von Difluorborchelaten nur dann eintritt, wenn Mesomeriestabilisierung im Chelatring moglich ist und/oder andere Faktoren die Bildung begunstigen. Aus den UV-Spektren kann man auf die relative Stabilitat der Chelatringe schliesen. Difluorborchelate wurden von folgenden Chelatbildnern dargestellt: 2-Hydroxyacetophenon (1)2,3), Salicylaldehyd (2), 5-Hydroxy-7-methoxyflavon (3), N-Salicylidenanilin (4), N-[l-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)athyliden]-anilin (5), Salicylaldehydazin (7), Salicylaldehyd-phenylhydrazon (8), 2-Hydroxyacetophenonphenylhydrazon (9), 1-Benzolazo-2-naphthol (15)4), 1-Benzolazo-2-naphthylamin (16) und N-Benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamin (17). 2,2′-Pyridoin bildet mit BF3 das Bis(difluorbor)-Chelat 14, wahrend N-Salicylidenanthranilsaure und 2-(Salicylidenamino)phenol die Monofluorbor-Chelate 10 und 11 ergeben. In den Monofluorbor-Chelaten ist das Boratom an zwei Chelatringen beteiligt. BF3-Addukte wurden von N-Salicylidenanilin (6), 2-Aminophenol (12) und 2-(Benzylidenamino)phenol (13) isoliert.

The formation of difluoroboron chelates takes place much less readily than of diphenylboron chelates. By comparing the mode of reaction of similar and systematically modified chelating reagents with BF3 it has been shown that chelation occurs only if stabilizing mesomerism in the chelate ring is possible and/or other factors favour chelate formation. The relative stability of the chelate rings can be deduced from the u.v. spectra. Difluoroboron chelates of the following chelating reagents were obtained: 2-hydroxyacetophenone (1)2,3), salicylaldehyde (2), 5-hydroxy-7-methoxyflavone (3), N-salicylideneaniline (4), N-[1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-ethylidene]aniline (5) salicylaldehyde azine (7), salicylaldehyde phenylhydrazone (8), 2-hydroxyacetophenone phenylhydrazone (9), 1-benzeneazo-2-naphthol (15)4), 1-benzeneazo-2-naphthylamine (16), and N-benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine (17). 2,2′-Pyridoin formed the bis(difluoroboron) chelate 14 with boron trifluoride, whereas N-salicylideneanthranilic acid and 2-(salicylideneamino)phenol yielded the monofluoroboron chelates 10 and 11. In the monofluoroboron chelates the boron atom is a part of two chelate rings. BF3 adducts were isolated from the reaction of BF3 with N-salicylideneaniline (6). 2-aminophenol (12), and 2-(benzylideneamino)phenol (13).

Der Zusatz von Dimethylglyoxim ermoglicht eine empfindliche pulspolarographische Bestimmung von Co2+ und Ni2+ in wasrigen Grundlosungen durch eine katalytische Ligandenreduktion. Das Verfahren ist anwendbar bei Co2+- und Ni2+-Gehalten bis in den unteren ppb-Bereich. Die Eichfunktionen sind in einem weiten Bereich linear. Die Arbeitsbedingungen berucksichtigen grosere Gehalte an Fe, Cr, Mo, W, Mn und Ni bzw. Co, so das dieses Verfahren besonders zur Stahlanalyse geeignet ist, zumal eine simultane Bestimmung von kleinen Mengen Co und Ni moglich ist.

Diphenylborchelate von Pyridin- und Chinolinderivaten [Pyridin-carbonsaure-(2) (1), Chinolin-carbonsaure-(2) (3) und 8-Athoxycarbonylamino-chinolin (12)] sowie von folgenden N-Oxiden der Pyridin- und Chinolinreihe konnten erhalten werden: Pyridin-carbonsaure-(2)-N-oxid (2), Chinolin-carbonsaure-(2)-N-oxid (4), 2-Hydroxymethyl-pyridin-N-oxid (6), 8-Hydroxy-chinolin-N-oxid (8), 8-Athoxycarbonylamino-chinolin-N-oxid (13) sowie das Difluoroborchelat von 8-Hydroxy-chinolin-N-oxid (10). - Die Umsetzung von 8-Athoxycarbonylamino-chinolin-N-oxid mit BF3 fuhrte zum Addukt 14.

ZusammenfassungIn den Dioxinato-diaquokomplexen des Zinks und Cadmiums der Formel MeOx2 · 2 H2O kann das Wasser durch polare organische Liganden (Alkohole oder primäre und sekundäre Alkylamine) ganz oder teilweise ersetzt werden. Man erhält Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel MeOx2 · 2 ROH, MeOx2 · H2O · RNH2 bzw. MeOx2 · H2O · R2NH und MeOx2 · ROH · RNH2, von denen insbesondere die Aminkomplexe in Chloroform gut löslich sind und eine Extraktion und photometrische Bestimmung kleiner Zink- und Cadmiummengen ermöglichen. Quecksilber verhält sich ähnlich; die Ergebnisse sind jedoch schlecht reproduzierbar.
