Thermohydrogen processing is a technique in which hydrogen is used as a temporary alloying element in titanium alloys to control the microstructure and improve the final mechanical properties. Thermohydrogen processing can also be used to enhance the processability/fabricability of titanium products including sintering, compaction, machining, and hot working (forging, rolling, superplastic forming, etc.). In the case of near net shapes, such as castings and powder metallurgy products, thermohydrogen processing is the only method available for significant microstructural modifications and consequent enhancement in mechanical properties. This paper reviews the status of the methods and applications of thermohydrogen processing to titanium alloys. Hydrogen as a temporary alloying element in titanium alloys: thermohydrogen processing

Nanocomposites, consisting of a polymeric matrix and nanosized elements as reinforcement, have attracted significant scientific attention because of their high mechanical performance. A large variety of nanocomposites have been prepared using bio-based materials as a matrix and nanoreinforcement, so that it can reduce the dependence on nondegradable products and move to a sustainable materials basis. The objective of this study was to isolate nanocellulose from empty fruit bunch (EFB) fiber and their reinforcing effect on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/starch blend films. A series of PVA/starch films with different content of nanocellulose were prepared by solution casting method. Nanocellulose fiber with diameters ranging from 4 to 15nm has been successfully prepared. On the other hand, PVA/starch films reinforced with nanocellulose fiber possess significantly improved properties compared to unreinforced film. From the results, PVA/starch films with the addition of 5% (v/v) of nanocellulose exhibited best combination of properties. This nanocomposite was found to have tensile strength at about 5.694 MPa and elongation at break was 481.85%. In addition to good mechanical properties, this nanocomposite has good water resistance and biodegradability.

Passive grinding is a new rail grinding strategy. In this work, the influence of grinding pressure on the removal behaviors of rail material in passive grinding was investigated by using a self-designed passive grinding simulator. Meanwhile, the surface morphology of the rail and grinding wheel were observed, and the grinding force and temperature were measured during the experiment. Results show that the increase of grinding pressure leads to the rise of rail removal rate, i.e., grinding efficiency, surface roughness, residual stress, grinding force and grinding temperature. Inversely, the enhancement of grinding pressure and grinding force will reduce the grinding ratio, which indicates that service life of grinding wheel decreases. The debris presents dissimilar morphology under different grinding pressure, which reflects the distinction in grinding process. Therefore, for rail passive grinding, the appropriate grinding pressure should be selected to balance the grinding quality and the use of grinding wheel.

Study on the Effect of Grinding Pressure on Material Removal Behavior Performed on a Self-Designed Passive Grinding Simulator

Bulk nanocrystalline materials (BCNMs) of cobalt-nickel alloys have been prepared by high-speed jet electrodeposition (JED). Furthermore, the influence of the concentration of additive in electrolyte on deposition rate, current efficiency, as well as the morphology, chemical composition, microstructure, and properties of CoNi alloys has been investigated. The experimental results show that the amount of the additive has little effect on the deposition rate, current efficiency and Co-content of the deposited alloys, but they have a remarkable effect on the microstructure and properties. As the concentration of additive increases from 0 to 2.5 g/l, the grain-size of deposition layer decreases from 14 nm to 5 nm, the microhardness increases from HV495 to HV675, and the soft magnetic properties of the deposition layers are sharply improved.
