Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of counts using a breed-type smear and millipore membrane methods on fresh and preserved milk samples.

TL;DR: The millipore membrane count is a better method for determining somatic cells; significantly lower bacterial counts were obtained with it than the direct microscopic count; and the preservative had a marked adverse effect upon the stainability of bacteria independent of the method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uniformity of Solids on Smears of Milk Containing Glycine-2-14C and Its Relation to Cell Distribution

TL;DR: In this paper, the reproducibility of syringe-breed-type smears of milk containing glycine-2-14 C was evaluated with an inherent counting variation of the detector of 1.3%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solids Distribution in a Milk Smear Containing Algal-14C-Protein

TL;DR: Algal 14 C-Protein, an isotope similar in nature to the main milk component, was added to milk to provide additional data in evaluating the uniformity of a milk smear as discussed by the authors.
