Backward wave oscillators with rippled wall resonators: analytic theory and numerical simulation
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive theoretical treatment is developed for backward wave oscillators composed of a relativistic electron beam guided by a strong magnetic field through a slow wave structure consisting of a cylindrical waveguide with a sinusoidally varying wall radius.

TL;DR: The 80-TW "Z" pulsed power facility at Sandia National Laboratories as discussed by the authors is the largest pulsed-power device in the world today, and it can discharge up to 22'MJ of energy stored in its capacitor banks into a current pulse that rises in 100'ns and peaks at a current as high as 30 MA in low-inductance cylindrical targets.

TL;DR: The first controlled experiments measuring the growth of the magneto-Rayleigh-Taylor instability in fast Z-pinch plasmas are reported, and comparisons with numerical radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations show remarkably good agreement down to 50 μm wavelengths.
