Journal ArticleDOI

Overpotential phenomena on charged membranes in flow conditions. Transport mechanism in polarization conditions with KCl and HCl solutions and analysis of boundary layer overpotentials.

TL;DR: In this article, the results obtained with KCl and HCl solutions on cation membranes with the current interruption technique are analyzed and a consistent influence of competitive H+ transport in KCl solutions in high polarization conditions is found while in HCl solution Nernst-Plank equations hold for interfacial concentrations as low as 10-7N.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance evaluation and process design of an electrodialysis plant by overpotential measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, an investigation of Ionics Mark III ED stack is reported, the experimental techniques used allowed ED plant performance to be evaluated as a series of elementary subsystems; concentration boundary layer overpotentials were measured at different locations along the membrane flow path.
