Evaluation of three composting systems for the management of spent coffee grounds.

TL;DR: The optimum composting approach for the management of spent coffee grounds from the restaurant and ready-to-serve coffee industry was evaluated and earthworm growth and survival was reduced but mortality rates were lower in coffee treatments with cardboard additions.
Journal ArticleDOI

A deep learning approach for RGB image-based powdery mildew disease detection on strawberry leaves

TL;DR: Deep Learning was used to detect powdery mildew, persistent fungal disease in strawberries to reduce the amount of unnecessary fungicide use, and the need for field scouts, and showed on average of >92% in classification accuracy (CA).
Journal ArticleDOI

Biophysical and Ecological Interactions in a Temperate Tree-Based Intercropping System

TL;DR: The tangible benefits that are derived from properly designed and managed tree-based intercropping systems place this land management option above conventional agriculture in terms of long-term productivity and sustainability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of soil biochar concentration on the mitigation of emerging organic contaminant uptake in lettuce

TL;DR: After 28 days of irrigation with water containing EOCs at 15μgL-1, the average EOC concentration in roots and leaves decreased by 20-76% in biochar amended soil relative to non BC-amended soil, suggesting that the IBU sorbed fraction in BC is more recalcitrant to its biodegradation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Attitudes to the recovery and recycling of agricultural plastics waste: A case study of Nova Scotia, Canada
