The use of renewable energy resources, such as solar, wind, and biomass will not diminish their availability. Sunlight being a constant source of energy is used to meet the ever-increasing energy need. This review discusses the world's energy needs, renewable energy technologies for domestic use, and highlights public opinions on renewable energy. A systematic review of the literature was conducted from 2009 to 2018. During this process, more than 300 articles were classified and 42 papers were filtered for critical review. The literature analysis showed that despite serious efforts at all levels to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by promoting renewable energy as its alternative, fossil fuels continue to contribute 73.5% to the worldwide electricity production in 2017. Conversely, renewable sources contributed only 26.5%. Furthermore, this study highlights that the lack of public awareness is a major barrier to the acceptance of renewable energy technologies. The results of this study show that worldwide energy crises can be managed by integrating renewable energy sources in the power generation. Moreover, in order to facilitate the development of renewable energy technologies, this systematic review has highlighted the importance of public opinion and performed a real-time analysis of public tweets. This example of tweet analysis is a relatively novel initiative in a review study that will seek to direct the attention of future researchers and policymakers toward public opinion and recommend the implications to both academia and industries.

Towards Sustainable Energy: A Systematic Review of Renewable Energy Sources, Technologies, and Public Opinions

The mitigation of global energy demands and climate change are the most important factors in the modern days. Development and application of solar energy have been regarded by the government of India and common people, and they thought that solar photo voltaic energy can provide more energy in future compare to other renewable energies. In the last decade, solar photovoltaic energy research and development has supported by the central government and state governments. This paper discusses the progress of current solar photovoltaic energy in India. It highlights the renewable energy trend in India with major achievements, state wise analysis of solar parks and industrial applications. Finally, it discusses the Indian government policies and initiatives to promote solar energy in India. This review on solar photovoltaic energy will help decision makers and various stakeholders to understand the current status, barriers and challenges for better planning and management in this field.

A review of water heating system for solar energy applications

Energy is the key component in social and economic development of a country. It plays a pivotal role in building the nation and accomplishment of the missions such as “Make in India”, “Swachh Bharat Mission”, “Start-up India”, “Digital India” and “Agricultural Sustainability”. Indeed, more than 70% of Indian population resides in rural sectors and agricultural outcome being their only source of income. Deprivation of energy in rural sector and increasing energy demands in urban area is compelling India to exploit Renewable Energy Resources (RES) and reduce usage of fossil fuels. Solar power installations play a pivotal role in this direction. Although efforts are underway for solar energy implementation in rural India but still Renewable Energy Technologies (RET) lack popularity due to various obstacles that hinder its diffusion at grass root level. In this context, barriers of solar power installation in Indian rural sector have been recognized using extensive literature survey and experts’ input. In the present investigation, Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) methodology integrated with fuzzy MICMAC is utilized to identify the interrelationship among the identified barriers. Moreover, rankings of the identified barriers have also been obtained. ‘Social and Environmental barriers’ have been identified as dependent barriers while ‘Marketing and Policy barriers’ emerged out as independent barriers which needs to be addressed. The developed integrated structured model will be beneficial in understanding the interrelationship and dependencies among the identified barriers in the diffusion and adoption of solar energy in Indian rural sector.

Identification and analysis of barriers in implementation of solar energy in Indian rural sector using integrated ISM and fuzzy MICMAC approach

A solar water heating system (SWHS) is a device that makes available the thermal energy of the incident solar radiation for use in various water heating applications. SWHS largely depends on the performance of the collector's efficiency at capturing the incident solar radiation and transferring it to the water. With today's SWHS, water can be heated up to temperatures of 60–80 °C. Heated water is collected in a tank insulated to prevent heat loss. Circulation of water from the tank through the collectors and back to the tank continues automatically due to the thermosiphon principle. The hot water generated finds many end-use applications in domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors. India has the highest energy intensities in Asia. Very little investment and priority are being given to increase of the efficiency. On the other hand, the India has a high potential for developing energy production from renewable energy sources (RES): solar, water, wind and biomass. However, these potentials are not studied and exploited enough and the present situation for their utilization is not so good. Although energy is a critical foundation for economic growth and social progress of any country, there are many constraints for RES development in all of them (political, technological, financial, legislative, educational, etc.). Obviously, defining development strategies and new support measures is necessary since renewable energy sources can make an important contribution to the regional energy supply and security. The main purpose of this paper is to explore the solar water heating system (opportunities) in India.
