Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained Virological Response to Interferon Plus Ribavirin Reduces Non-Liver-Related Mortality in Patients Coinfected With HIV and Hepatitis C Virus
Juan Berenguer,Elena Urbaneja Rodríguez,Pilar Miralles,Miguel A. Von Wichmann,José López-Aldeguer,Josep Mallolas,María José Galindo,Eva Van den Eynde,María Jesús Téllez,Carmen Quereda,Antoni Jou,José Sanz,Carlos Barros,Ignacio Santos,Federico Pulido,Josep M. Guardiola,Enrique Ortega,Rafael Rubio,Juan J. Jusdado,María Luisa Montes,Gabriel Gaspar,Herminia Esteban,José María Bellón,Juan González-García +23 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that eradication of HCV after therapy with interferon plus ribavirin in HIV/HCV-coinfected patients is associated not only with a reduction in liver-related events but also with a reduced in HIV progression and mortality not related to liver disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of simultaneous use of highly active antiretroviral therapy on survival of HIV patients with tuberculosis.
María Velasco,Virgilio Castilla,José Sanz,Gabriel Gaspar,Emilia Condes,Carlos Barros,Miguel Cervero,R Torres,Carlos Guijarro +8 more
TL;DR: Simultaneous HAART and TB treatment in HIV patients with TB is associated with improved survival, and ST remained robustly associated withImproved survival after adjusting for other prognostic variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
All-oral direct-acting antiviral therapy against hepatitis C virus (HCV) in human immunodeficiency virus/HCV-coinfected subjects in real-world practice: Madrid coinfection registry findings.
Juan Berenguer,Ángela Gil-Martin,Inmaculada Jarrín,Ana Moreno,L. Domínguez,Marisa Montes,Teresa Aldámiz-Echevarría,María Jesús Téllez,Ignacio Santos,Laura Benitez,José Sanz,Pablo Ryan,Gabriel Gaspar,Beatriz Alvarez,Juan Emilio Losa,Rafael Torres-Perea,Carlos Barros,Juan V. San Martin,Sari Arponen,María T. de Guzmán,Raquel Monsalvo,Ana Vegas,María T. Garcia-Benayas,Regino Serrano,Luis Gotuzzo,María Antonia Menendez,Luis M Belda,Eduardo Malmierca,María J. Calvo,Encarnación Cruz-Martos,Juan González-García +30 more
TL;DR: In this large real‐world study, direct‐acting antiviral agent–based therapy was safe and highly effective in coinfected patients; predictors of failure included gender, human immunodeficiency virus–related immunosuppression, HCV RNA load, severity of liver disease, and the use of suboptimal direct‐ acting antiviralAgent–based regimens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Eradication of hepatitis C virus and non-liver-related non-acquired immune deficiency syndrome-related events in human immunodeficiency virus/hepatitis C virus coinfection.
Juan Berenguer,Elena Rodriguez-Castellano,Ana Carrero,Miguel A. Von Wichmann,Marta Montero,María José Galindo,Josep Mallolas,Manuel Crespo,María Jesús Téllez,Carmen Quereda,José Sanz,Carlos Barros,Cristina Tural,Ignacio Santos,Federico Pulido,Josep M. Guardiola,Rafael Rubio,Enrique Ortega,María Luisa Montes,Juan J. Jusdado,Gabriel Gaspar,Herminia Esteban,José María Bellón,Juan González-García +23 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that eradication of HCV in coinfected patients is associated not only with a reduction in the frequency of death, HIV progression, and liver‐related events, but also with a reduced hazard of diabetes mellitus and possibly of chronic renal failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical effects of viral relapse after interferon plus ribavirin in patients co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C virus
Juan Berenguer,Julio Álvarez-Pellicer,Ana Carrero,Miguel A. Von Wichmann,José López-Aldeguer,Josep Mallolas,María José Galindo,Eva Van den Eynde,María Jesús Téllez,Carmen Quereda,Cristina Tural,José Sanz,Carlos Barros,Ignacio Santos,Federico Pulido,Josep M. Guardiola,Enrique Ortega,Rafael Rubio,Juan J. Jusdado,María Luisa Montes,Gabriel Gaspar,Elena Barquilla,José María Bellón,Juan González-García +23 more
TL;DR: The impact of end-of-treatment response with subsequent relapse (REL) on LR events (LR death, liver decompensation, hepatocellular carcinoma, or liver transplantation), and liver stiffness (LS) by transient elastography is assessed by transientElastography.
