Journal ArticleDOI
Examination of the validity of instructed response items in identifying careless respondents
TL;DR: This paper found that instructed response items have high internal consistency, good convergent validity with other types of carelessness detectors (synonyms, antonyms, and odd-even index), and good discriminant validity with acquiescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exaggerated production of nitric oxide (NO) and increases in inducible NO-synthase mRNA levels induced by the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β in vascular smooth muscle cells of elderly rats
TL;DR: New insight is given into effects of aging on iNOS expression in VSMCs, showing dramatic increases in both basal and stimulated iN OS mRNA levels, which may contribute to the development of vascular diseases in the elderly.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ginseng extracts restore high-glucose induced vascular dysfunctions by altering triglyceride metabolism and downregulation of atherosclerosis-related genes.
Gabriel H. H. Chan,Betty Yuen-kwan Law,Betty Yuen-kwan Law,John M.T. Chu,Kevin K M Yue,Zhi-Hong Jiang,Chi Wai Lau,Yu Huang,Shun Wan Chan,Patrick Y K Yue,Ricky N S Wong +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that Panax ginseng can restore diabetes-induced impaired vasorelaxation and can reduce serum triglyceride but not cholesterol level in the diabetic rats and protective effects may possibly be due to the downregulation of atherosclerosis-related genes and altered lipid metabolism, which help to restore normal endothelium functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Severe impairment of CGRP-induced hypotension in vivo and vasorelaxation in vitro in elderly rats.
TL;DR: The data suggest that the vasodilatory responses to CGRP in both large arteries and the small resistance-sized arteries regulating arterial blood pressure are damaged or down-regulated by the aging process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activities of Venom Proteins and Peptides with Possible Therapeutic Applications from Bees and WASPS.
Xiujuan Ye,Suzhen Guan,JW Liu,Charlene C.W. Ng,Gabriel H. H. Chan,Stephen Cho Wing Sze,Kalin Y Zhang,Ryno J. Naudé,Krzysztof Rolka,John Wong,TB Ng +10 more
TL;DR: The variety of proteins and peptides isolated from honey bee venom and wasp venom includes melittin, adiapin, apamine, bradykinin, cardiopep, mast cell degranulating peptide, mastoparan, phospholipase A2 and secapin.
