Conventionally, public transportation has been the responsibility of the government. In developing countries, however, government-provided public transportation is often inadequate: people’s mobility needs are best met by private modes, such as shared auto-rickshaws. In India, auto-rickshaws serve as a popular last-mile transportation alternative as well as a public transportation substitute. The mode share of auto-rickshaws in major Indian cities is significant. Electrifying this mode will certainly result in a significant reduction in air pollution levels. It is therefore imperative to identify the factors which influence rickshaw operators (ROs)’ willingness to adopt battery-operated rickshaws (BORs) in India. The present study aims to identify and explore the factors that contribute to the adaptability of battery electric vehicles in India and measure the satisfaction level of ROs with the selected factors. By using structural equation modeling, the present research found that, from the viewpoint of 478 ROs, vehicle-related attributes and economy-related attributes are most influential on the adaptability of BORs. Furthermore, the one-way analysis of variance revealed that willingness to adopt BORs is significantly related to the age of the ROs. From the standpoint of government, as well as electric vehicle manufacturers, this study would be helpful in understanding the tastes, expectations, and needs of ROs if they adopt BORs.

Examining Factors Affecting the Willingness of Rickshaw Operators to Adopt Battery Operated Rickshaws: The Case of Bhopal, India

Electric vehicle (EV) disposition may challenge serious environmental issues such as excessive dependence on oil, especially in the transport sector. Despite this understanding, the adoption intention has been disappointing to date. This review tries to present a comprehensive overview of the methodologies, theories, and variables used in 57 peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2022 covering the main forms of consumer adoption of EVs, consisting of purchase as well as behavioral and usage intentions. Governments may stimulate consumer adoption of EVs with exemptions on roadway tolls, convenient access to charging infrastructures, and tax and economic incentives considering energy trading and vehicle sharing. Second, it is important to create intensive awareness revolving around the EV segment. Furthermore, respecting and understanding consumer preferences would also pave the way for the success of EV acceptance. Finally, consumers’ risk–benefit belief while adopting new technology will play a significant role in choosing an EV in the future, while the biggest barriers to adopting EV will be consumers’ lack of confidence in EV performance, safety standard measures, and range per charge.

Consumer Adoption of Electric Vehicles: A Systematic Literature Review

Although necessary, there are a large number of complex factors involved in making mass adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles in a developing country like India, a reality. This qualitative study encompasses exploration of the drivers for, barriers to, and support mechanisms involved in making this transition successful. 41 in-depth interviews across multiple stakeholders such as automobile manufacturers, suppliers, academicians & consultants, BEV owners, potential customers, and government officials were conducted. Inclination of the government towards investment in R&D and offering financial & non-financial benefits were identified as major drivers. Poor infrastructure and prevalent product related technical issues, high cost of manufacturing due to raw material imports in the country, and insufficient legislative support around incentives offered to customers came up as major barriers. Impactful awareness and promotional campaigns by govt and industry, increased collaboration between industry and academia, continuous testing and improvisation of vehicular performance could serve as support mechanisms.

Factors affecting adoption of electric vehicles in India: An exploratory study

This paper aims to assess the factors favoring the adoption of the challenges faced and support mechanism, which will lead to the proliferation of glass fiber-reinforced gypsum (GFRG) technology in India.,Semi-structured interviews with 35 experts, including construction developers, architects, contractors, government officials and design consultants, were conducted. This qualitative data was analyzed using thematic analysis and matrix analysis.,GFRG-based buildings produce much less carbon footprints as compared to traditional ones and can be safely recommended as a promising, environmentally sensitive technology of the future. The major drivers in its adoption are its efficient construction capability, energy and soil conservation and significant waste reduction. Some of the challenges in implementation are long planning time, lack of skilled labor, lack of awareness about green building technologies and myopic perception of high cost incurred in green building adoption in people’s minds.,This study establishes that the construction industry has the potential to contribute toward creating a sustainable and green planet. It does so by evaluating and then positively positioning GFRG as an environmentally friendly building system.,The harmful effects of continuous environmental manipulation by humans leading to its degradation is a critical discussion agenda for most nations of the world. The issue has been taken up seriously by developing countries, and now, developing countries are also becoming sensitised to it. Several policies toward the attainment of this goal have been formulated and are being implemented by government and private bodies. Although some authors have studied the issues and challenges related to the adoption of green buildings, their attempts mostly focused on developed countries. Moreover, research that investigated the evaluation of the GFRG building system as a successful green technology of the future is inadequate.
