Journal ArticleDOI

Application of Light-Emitting Diodes in Food Production, Postharvest Preservation, and Microbiological Food Safety

TL;DR: A review of the technology of LEDs and their role in food production, postharvest preservation, and in microbiological safety is provided in this paper, where several challenges and limitations are identified for further investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibacterial effect of light emitting diodes of visible wavelengths on selected foodborne pathogens at different illumination temperatures.

TL;DR: The results show that the antibacterial effect of the LEDs was highly dependent on the wavelength and the illumination temperature, and suggests the potential of 461 and 521 nm LEDs in combination with chilling to be used as a novel food preservation technology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy of chlorine and peroxyacetic acid on reduction of natural microflora, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocyotgenes and Salmonella spp. on mung bean sprouts

TL;DR: Peroxyacetic acid (PAA) may replace chlorine in the disinfection of mung bean sprouts and that acid-adapted pathogens should be used to design an effective sanitizing strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibacterial efficacy of 405, 460 and 520 nm light emitting diodes on Lactobacillus plantarum, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus.

TL;DR: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of LEDs of three different wavelengths on bacterial inactivation and found no difference in the antibacterial efficacy between the three wavelengths.
