Journal ArticleDOI

China's forest policy for the 21st century.

TL;DR: Through locally focused management strategies, biodiversity and forest resources will be sustained, and downstream regions will be better protected from flooding.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationships between landcover proportion and indices of landscape spatial pattern

TL;DR: In this article, simulated landscapes of forest and non-forest landcover were generated to investigate the relationship between the proportion of forest (Pi) and indices of patch spatial pattern. And the results support the use of percolation models as neutral models in landscape ecology, and the performance of indices studied with these neutral models can be used to help interpret those indices calculated for real landscapes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using an index of habitat patch proximity for landscape design

TL;DR: In this paper, a proximity index (PX) inspired by island biogeography theory is described which quantifies the spatial context of a habitat patch in relation to its neighbors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tree dynamics in an old-growth, deciduous forest

TL;DR: An analysis of the size-class distribution of all species suggests that early and mid-seral speciessuch as Gleditsia triacanthos, Juglans nigra, and Quercus spp.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regional distribution and dynamics of coarse woody debris in Midwestern old-growth forests

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present results of a regional inventory that quantifies and examines regional and temporal trends for deadwood in upland old-growth forest remnants within Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.
