A new generation of small hydro and pumped-hydro power plants: Advances and future challenges

TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of the prospects of pumped-hydro energy storage plants and small hydro power plants in the light of sustainable development is presented. But the main challenges to be faced are the design of new runners, that had to match the existing stationary parts, and the development of optimal sizing and management strategies to increase their economic appeal.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Modeling Strategy and Numerical Validation for a Darrieus Vertical Axis Micro-Wind Turbine

TL;DR: In this article, a model for the evaluation of optimal spatial grid node distribution in the CFD analysis of a Darrieus vertical axis micro wind turbine, by analyzing the trends over a 360° rotation of some indicators of near-blade mesh quality, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of different numerical approaches to the study of the H-Darrieus turbines start-up

TL;DR: In this paper, different approaches to describe the self-start of an H-blade Darrieus rotor are presented and compared with two and three-dimensional CFD simulations, and the tip-speed ratio versus power coefficient curves and the evolution of the trust forces over a blade revolution highlighted the limits and strengths of each approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Time–frequency characterization of the unsteady phenomena in a centrifugal pump

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an experimental investigation of the flow field instability in a centrifugal pump, where pressure fluctuations were measured with transducers placed flush with the inlet duct, and at the impeller discharge.
